The Department of Law was established at Khawaja Fareed Campus of the University in 1979. Later on, it was shifted to Abbasia Campus. In the beginning, the Department offered 2 year Law degree which was expanded to 3 year degree program in 1992.
The Department is located in the heart of the city and works in collaboration with District Courts and The Lahore High Court Bahawalpur Bench. It has close interaction with local Bar Associations. A number of experienced lawyers are associated with the Department as visiting faculty.
The Department is producing quality lawyers, judges and attorneys. A large number of law graduates are working both in public and private sectors. The Department was the first law institution in the Punjab which introduced English as a medium of instruction and examinations in 1999. This step assisted in improving the standard of legal education. To improve further, Department has planned to start LLM program from the next session.
The Department has a well equipped library of approximately 5000 books and law journals. The Department has a furnished moot room to give practical education like trial advocacy etc. For further improvement, information technology laboratory has also been established in the Department.
