Bahawalpur (              ) Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) has approved a research grant of Rs. 48.652 million under Competitive Grant System (CGS) for a camel research project of Dr. Zahid Kamran, Assistant Professor Animal Nutrition, University College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. This project will not only help in generating reliable information on milk production and reproductive efficiency of Cholistani camel but will also serve as a foundation to increase camel productivity in future. Moreover, it will involve the isolation and encapsulation of lactoferrin and insulin from camel milk which will be evaluated for their efficacy against hepatitis and diabetes in humans. University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore and Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab are the collaborating institutions in this project and it will be completed in a period of 4 years. Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has appreciated the efforts and success of the research scholar for winning a research grant significant for the livestock of Cholistan.
