Director’s Message

Welcome to the Directorate of Academics, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Pakistan is striving for excellence in academics at the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Pakistan through development, review, and monitoring of academic curricula & policies in line with International best practices, and market needs. Directorate of Academics was established by upgrading the academics division and is among the main entities of registrar office. The office coordinates with academic departments for the development and revision of curricula in line with international best practices and market needs. The office also provides guidelines for review of curricula, and the dissemination of directions of the competent authority, academic council, and the syndicate for enforcement of highest academic standards for excellence in teaching and learning. We, the officers, and staff at the Directorate of Academics, are enthusiastic to serve the academic departments, administration, faculty, students, and the higher authorities with the best of our abilities.

Overview of the Directorate

The Directorate of Academics at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has been established with the objective to collaborate with the academic departments for development of curricula in line with international best practices, market needs, and requirements of accreditation bodies for different degree programs, and to ensure their effective implementation at the University level. The directorate also mandates to ensure implementation of academic regulations and policies, development, and execution of academic calendar through proper monitoring system, review, and update of academic programs, start of new programs in anticipation of emerging needs and preparation of future forecasts. The office coordinates with teaching departments for review and update of infrastructure including laboratories and classrooms, planning and execution of trainings for faculty, and internships/teaching assistantships for PhD scholars to ensure quality teaching and research reflecting the highest international educational and research standards matching with the world’s best universities. The Directorate of Academics manages the centralized admissions in coordination with Directorate of IT and deals with meeting of board of studies, board of faculty, and academic council. The directorate has different sections having independent roles for academics, admissions, migration, coordination, and digitalization of academic matters in the university.

Vision

To develop the Directorate of Academics into a dynamic academic management office for ensuring the highest academic standards of excellence in teaching and learning.

Objective

To collaborate with the academic departments for development, review, and monitoring of academic curricula & policies in line with International best practices, market needs, and requirements of accreditation bodies for different degree programs, and to ensure their effective implementation at the University level.

Responsibilities of Directorate of Academics

The directorate of Academics mandates to perform following functions:

      Coordination with teaching departments in all academic matters including board of studies for the development and revision of curricula, review and update of scheme of studies, uniformity in course codes, and implementation of rules & regulations and directives of the competent authority, and higher bodies.
      Framing and update of semester rules and regulations for the University according to requirements.
      Semester planning and development of University academic calendar, and to ensure the harmony in the admissions, and examination schedules.
      Coordination with all stakeholders for planning & implementation of admission process.
      Development and maintenance of students’ enrolment management system.
      Issuance of student registration number and provision of data for student ID cards.
      Timetable management and ensuring of classes and academic internships.
      Development of new programs according to market needs & incorporation of new courses in the syllabi according to University requirements (Annexure 1) in collaboration with teaching departments.
      Addition of general education & University required courses according to modern needs / instructions of the Government in the curriculum.
      To keep liaison with Government bodies such as HEC, PHEC, and other departments for implementation of academic policies regarding curriculum development, standards of education, enrolment issues, and admission process, etc.
      Coordination in Faculty Development Programs of the University and ensuring faculty trainings.
      To facilitate the prospectus / Admission committee and Public Relations Office in publication of University prospectus, and annual reports.
      Preparation of statistical reports regarding student/teacher ratio, creation of harmony among teaching departments for deployment of services of teaching staff, uniformity in courses offered, and selection of visiting / part time faculty in case of deficiency as per demands of teaching departments.
