The Islamia University of Bahawalpur’s Leading Role in Cultural Heritage Preservation
Special Event by the Department of Archaeology and Culture & Heritage Research Center on World Heritage Day 

Every year on April 18, the world celebrates World Heritage Day, aiming to highlight the significance of global cultural heritage, archaeological sites, historic buildings, and traditional values. This day serves as a reminder that the collective heritage of humanity is a precious legacy that must be preserved and passed down through generations — a shared responsibility for all. In line with this objective, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, through its Department of Archaeology and the Culture & Heritage Research Center, organized an insightful awareness seminar attended by experts, faculty members, students, and researchers in large numbers. Professor Dr. Amir Sohail (Dean, Faculty of Arts and Languages) was the chief guest, while Dr. Muhammad Yasir graced the occasion as the guest of honor. Dr. Khalil Ahmad (Head, Department of Archaeology and Additional Director, Culture & Heritage Research Center) warmly welcomed the guests and participants. In his address, Dr. Khalil Ahmad shed light on the activities and initiatives undertaken by the department and the research center. He emphasized that these institutions are playing a vital role not only in the preservation of historical and cultural heritage but also in providing students with valuable opportunities for practical and research-based learning. Under his guidance, students actively participate in documentation, modern preservation techniques, and the promotion of cultural awareness. Dr. Muhammad Yasir elaborated on the importance of heritage from an Islamic perspective, stating that Islamic heritage is not merely a relic of the past but a continuum of our spiritual and intellectual identity. He stressed that the protection of heritage aligns with the moral teachings of Islam and that silence over its destruction is equivalent to moral negligence.Professor Dr. Amir Sohail delivered a comprehensive talk on the regional, cultural, and global significance of heritage. He highlighted that every nation and region has its own unique heritage that reflects its history and civilization. Protecting this heritage is not solely the responsibility of experts but of every individual. He emphasized that cultural heritage is the hallmark of vibrant societies and that it helps new generations connect with their roots. This event reflects that The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is not only a center of academic excellence but also a key institution in the promotion of cultural consciousness and heritage preservation. The Department of Archaeology and the Culture & Heritage Research Center continue to play a pivotal role in safeguarding our national heritage through sustained efforts and dedication.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Khalil Ahmad extended heartfelt thanks to all the guests, faculty members, and students, expressing hope that such programs will foster greater awareness and inspire the younger generation to take up the responsibility of preserving our heritage. World Heritage Day serves as a powerful reminder that our cultural legacy is not just a reflection of the past — it is a living tradition, a source of identity, and a guide for the future.

اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کا ثقافتی ورثے کے تحفظ میں قائدانہ کردار ورلڈ ہیریٹیج ڈے کے موقع پر ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف آرکیالوجی اور کلچر اینڈ ہیریٹیج ریسرچ سینٹر کی خصوصی تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔
ہر سال 18 اپریل کو دنیا بھر میں ورلڈ ہیریٹیج ڈے منایا جاتا ہے، جس کا مقصد عالمی ثقافتی ورثے، آثارِ قدیمہ، تاریخی عمارات اور روایات کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کرنا اور ان کے تحفظ کے لیے شعور بیدار کرنا ہے۔ یہ دن اس حقیقت کی یاد دہانی ہے کہ انسانیت کا مشترکہ ورثہ ایک ایسی متاع ہے جسے نسل در نسل منتقل کرنا ہم سب کی اجتماعی ذمہ داری ہے۔
اسی سلسلے میں دی اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف آرکیالوجی اور کلچر اینڈ ہیریٹیج ریسرچ سینٹر کے اشتراک سے ایک علمی و شعوری آگاہی سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا گیا، جس میں ماہرین، اساتذہ، طلبہ اور محققین کی کثیر تعداد نے شرکت کی۔
پروگرام کے مہمانِ خصوصی پروفیسر ڈاکٹر عامر سہیل ڈین فیکلٹی آف آرٹس اینڈ لینگویجز جبکہ مہمان اعزاز ڈاکٹر محمد یاسر تھے۔ ڈاکٹر خلیل احمد ہیڈ آف ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف آرکیالوجی و ایڈیشنل ڈائریکٹر کلچر اینڈ ہیریٹیج ریسرچ سینٹر نے معزز مہمانوں اور طلبہ کو خوش آمدید کہا۔ ڈاکٹر خلیل احمد نے اپنے خطاب میں یونیورسٹی کے شعبہ آثارِ قدیمہ اور ریسرچ سینٹر کی سرگرمیوں پر تفصیل سے روشنی ڈالی۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ یہ ادارے نہ صرف تاریخی و ثقافتی ورثے کے تحفظ کے لیے اہم تحقیقی کام سرانجام دے رہے ہیں بلکہ طلبہ کو عملی و تحقیقی میدان میں بھی سیکھنے کے بھرپور مواقع فراہم کررہے ہیں۔ ان کی رہنمائی میں طلبہ قدیم آثار کی دستاویزی تحقیق، تحفظ کے جدید طریقوں، اور ثقافتی شعور کی ترویج میں پیش پیش ہیں۔ ڈاکٹر محمد یاسر نے اسلام کی روشنی میں ثقافتی ورثے کی اہمیت بیان کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ ہمارا اسلامی ورثہ محض ماضی کی یادگار نہیں بلکہ ہمارے عقیدے، شناخت اور علمی سرمائے کا حصہ ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ورثے کی حفاظت دینِ اسلام کی اخلاقی تعلیمات سے ہم آہنگ ہے اور اس کی تباہی پر خاموشی مجرمانہ غفلت کے مترادف ہے۔پروفیسر ڈاکٹر عامر سہیل نے ورثے کی علاقائی، تہذیبی، اور عالمی اہمیت پر مفصل خطاب کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہر قوم اور ہر خطے کا اپنا ایک ورثہ ہوتا ہے جو اس کی تاریخ اور تہذیب کا آئینہ دار ہوتا ہے۔ اس ورثے کا تحفظ محض ماہرین کی ذمہ داری نہیں بلکہ ہر فرد کی ذمہ داری ہے۔ انہوں نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ ثقافتی ورثہ زندہ معاشروں کی پہچان ہوتا ہے اور اس کے ذریعے نئی نسلیں اپنی جڑوں سے جڑتی ہیں۔ یہ تقریب اس بات کی غمازی کرتی ہے کہ دی اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور نہ صرف علمی میدان میں بلکہ تہذیبی شعور اور ثقافتی ورثے کے تحفظ میں بھی ایک اہم ادارہ ہے۔ ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف آرکیالوجی اور کلچر اینڈ ہیریٹیج ریسرچ سینٹر ہمارے قومی ورثے کی حفاظت کیلۓ مسلسل اپنی کاوشیں جاری رکھے ہوئے ہے ۔ تقریب کے اختتام پر ڈاکٹر خلیل احمد نے تمام مہمانوں، اساتذہ اور طلبہ کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور کہا کہ اس نوعیت کے پروگرام نہ صرف شعور اجاگر کرتے ہیں بلکہ نئی نسل کو تاریخ اور ثقافت سے جوڑنے میں اہم کردار ادا کرتے ہیں۔ ورلڈ ہیریٹیج ڈے ہمیں یاد دلاتا ہے کہ ہمارا ثقافتی ورثہ صرف ماضی کی داستان نہیں، بلکہ ایک زندہ روایت ہے جو ہمارے حال کی شناخت اور مستقبل کی رہنمائی ہے۔
