The initiative of Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor for the promotion of agricultural research at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and the establishment of the Center for Intercropping Technology in collaboration with Sichuan Agriculture University of China is being appreciated nationally and internationally. The Chinese media has appreciated the vision of Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob for the promotion of agricultural research in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. A research center will be set up at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, and the Sichuan Agricultural University to promote inter-cropping technology. Prof. Dr. Yang Wenyu has successfully experimented with corn and soybean inter-cropping which is becoming very popular in Pakistan. According to Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, using this technology will help to meet the growing nutritional needs of Pakistan. Similarly increasing the production of edible oil can save valuable foreign exchange and improve the supply of food for livestock. Nature has provided Pakistan with the best natural source of solar energy which can make better use of intercropping technology. The Vice Chancellor said that in view of these factors, Islamia University Bahawalpur has planned to setup Chinese Agricultural Research Institute for research on intercropping technology. It has been decided to set up a research center in collaboration with the university. In this regard, a memorandum of understanding will be signed with Sichuan University soon under which 20 students from Islamia University Bahawalpur will be sent to China for PhD scholarship. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that the unprecedented development of the great friendly neighboring country is a shining example for us to benefit from which students and teachers will be exchanged with Chinese universities to promote scientific research and technology exchange. In this connection, the Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur recently visited the Maize and Soybean Intercropping Fields near Bahawalpur. On this occasion, he had a detailed discussion with Dr. Muhammad Ali Raza, an agricultural scientist, about this important project of agricultural development. The establishment of a research center at Islamia University Bahawalpur has also benefited the local farming community. He said on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan the establishment of a Modern Research Center at Islamia University Bahawalpur would be a great gift for promoting research activities by both the countries. Many development and industrial projects will be launched in South Punjab. In this regard, cooperation with Chinese universities and institutions in engineering, information technology, agriculture, veterinary, medicine and other scientific fields will pave the way for new avenues for development and prosperity.

پاکستان اور چین کے سفارتی تعلقات کی 70ویں سالگرہ کے موقع پر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور اور سیچوان یونیورسٹی چین کے مابین زرعی تحقیق میں اشتراک و تعاون کو دونو ں ممالک کے میڈیا میں سراہا جا رہا ہے۔ اس سلسلے میں پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر کے ویژن کی خصوصی تعریف کی گئی ہے جس کے باعث پاکستان میں چین کے تعاون سے اپنی نوعیت کے پہلے انٹرکراپنگ ریسرچ سنٹر کا قیام ممکن ہو رہا ہے۔چینی زرعی ماہر پرفیسر ڈاکٹر یانگ وینیو نے کامیابی سے مکئی اور سویابین انٹرکراپنگ کا کامیاب تجربہ کیا جو پاکستان میں بے حد مقبول ہو رہا ہے۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر نے گزشتہ دنوں بہاولپور کے نزدیک ایک گاؤں میں ڈاکٹر محمد علی رضا کے ہمراہ ایک زرعی فارم کا دورہ کیا جہاں پر انٹرکراپنگ ٹیکنالوجی کا کامیاب تجربہ کیا گیا ہے۔ مزید براں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور اور سیچوان یونیورسٹی کے مابین اساتذہ، محققین اور ریسرچ سکالرز کا بھی باہمی تبادلہ ہوگا۔ اس سلسلے میں 20طلباء وطالبات جلد ہی پی ایچ ڈی سکالرشپس کے لیے چین روانہ ہوں گے۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب کا کہنا ہے کہ جنوبی پنجاب میں خاص طور پر چینی اور پاکستانی جامعات کے درمیان زراعت، انجینئرنگ، انفارمیشن ٹیکنالوجی، ویٹرنری، میڈیسن اور دیگر شعبہ میں تعاون کے مواقعے موجود ہیں اور امید وثوق ہے کہ سفارتی تعلقات کی 70ویں سالگرہ تعلیم وتحقیق میں اشتراک ِعمل کو مزید جِلا بخشے گی۔
