The SDGs Collaboration Center, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, successfully organised a seminar to commemorate "International Day of Democracy 2026. The seminar was arranged under the theme when every voice counts, democracy delivers. It aimed to promote awareness of democratic values and highlight the importance of inclusive participation, representative institutions, political accountability, and meaningful public engagement in strengthening democratic societies. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti Dean Faculty of Social Sciences chaired the session. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of academic dialogue in promoting democratic awareness and encouraging responsible citizenship. She emphasised that universities play an important role in developing informed, tolerant, and socially responsible citizens. The distinguished speakers at the seminar included Dr. Sarfraz Batool Director Usman Buzdar School of State Sciences, Dr. Shakil Akhtar, Chairman Department of Political Science, Dr. Shahbaz Ali Chairman Department of Public Administration, Dr. Ahsan Riaz Assistant Professor Department of Political Science. The speakers shared their scholarly perspectives on democracy, citizen participation, institutional development, good governance, political inclusion, and the challenges confronting contemporary democratic systems. Particular emphasis was placed on the principle that democracy becomes effective when citizens are provided with equal opportunities to participate and when institutions remain responsive, transparent, and accountable. The seminar also highlighted the relationship between democracy and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The discussion underlined that inclusive decision-making, respect for diverse opinions, the rule of law, and strong public institutions are essential for sustainable peace and development. The event provided a valuable academic platform for reflecting on the meaning and significance of democracy in the contemporary world. It reinforced the need to promote a democratic culture based on dialogue, tolerance, participation, constitutionalism, and respect for every citizen’s voice.

اقوام متحدہ کے پائیدار ترقی کے اہداف سے متعلق اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے ایس ڈی جیز کولیبریشن سینٹر اور شعبہ سیاسیات کے اشتراک سے عالمی یومِ جمہوریت 2026 کے موقع پر ایک سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا گیا ۔ اس سیمینار کا مرکزی تھیم جب ہر آواز کی اہمیت ہو، تو جمہوریت ثمر آور ہوتی ہےتھا۔ اس کا مقصد جمہوری اقدار کے بارے میں آگاہی کو فروغ دینا اور جمہوری معاشروں کی مضبوطی کے لیے سب کی شمولیت نمائندہ اداروں سیاسی احتساب اور عوامی سطح پر بامقصد شرکت کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کرنا تھا۔ اجلاس کی صدارت ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی نے کی۔ اپنے خطاب میں انہوں نے جمہوری آگاہی کو فروغ دینے اور ذمہ دارانہ شہریت کی حوصلہ افزائی میں علمی مکالمے کی اہمیت پر روشنی ڈالی۔ انہوں نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ باخبر، روادار اور سماجی طور پر ذمہ دار شہری تیار کرنے میں یونیورسٹیاں اہم کردار ادا کرتی ہیں۔ سیمینار کے ممتاز مقررین میں عثمان بزدار اسکول آف اسٹیٹ سائنسز کی ڈائریکٹر ڈاکٹر سرفراز بتول، شعبہ سیاسیات کے چیئرمین ڈاکٹر شکیل اختر، شعبہ پبلک ایڈمنسٹریشن کے چیئرمین ڈاکٹر شہباز علی اور شعبہ سیاسیات کے اسسٹنٹ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر احسن ریاض شامل تھے۔ مقررین نے جمہوریت، شہریوں کی شرکت، ادارہ جاتی ترقی، گڈ گورننس، سیاسی شمولیت اور عصری جمہوری نظاموں کو درپیش چیلنجوں پر اپنے علمی خیالات کا اظہار کیا۔ اس اصول پر خصوصی زور دیا گیا کہ جمہوریت تب ہی مؤثر ثابت ہوتی ہے جب شہریوں کو شرکت کے مساوی مواقع فراہم کیے جائیں اور ادارے عوام کے لیے جوابدہ، شفاف اور ذمہ دار رہیں۔ سیمینار میں جمہوریت اور پائیدار ترقی کے اہداف (SDGs)، بالخصوص ہدف نمبر 16 (امن، انصاف اور مضبوط ادارے) کے باہمی تعلق کو بھی اجاگر کیا گیا۔ بحث کے دوران اس بات پر زور دیا گیا کہ پائیدار امن اور ترقی کے لیے سب کی شمولیت پر مبنی فیصلہ سازی، مختلف آراء کا احترام، قانون کی حکمرانی اور مضبوط عوامی ادارے ناگزیر ہیں۔ اس تقریب نے عصری دنیا میں جمہوریت کے مفہوم اور اہمیت پر غور و فکر کرنے کے لیے ایک بہترین علمی پلیٹ فارم فراہم کیا۔ اس نے مکالمے، رواداری، شرکت، آئینی بالادستی اور ہر شہری کی آواز کے احترام پر مبنی جمہوری کلچر کو فروغ دینے کی ضرورت کو مزید تقویت دی۔
