The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is a public sector university in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, which was originally established by His Highness Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi - V as the Jamia Abbasia in 1925. Jamia Abbasia was upgraded as Jamia Islamia in 1963. The Jamia Islamia was converted into a Chartered University as “The Islamia University of Bahawalpur” in 1975, by the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab under The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Act 1975”.The University has five campuses. Abbasia Campus, Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus and Khawaja Fareed Campus are located in Bahawalpur and two sub-campuses are situated in Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan. To align with the modern needs and changing world, recently, the number of department has been increased from 26 to 129, offering more than 300 disciplines. At present around 1800 teachers including 550 PhDs are serving to provide latest and quality education. Apart from conventional disciplines of religious affairs, languages, social and basic sciences, is being imparted in the areas of Allied Health Sciences, Agriculture, Business Administration, Computing, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Information Technology, Law, Pharmacy, Sports and Veterinary Sciences. The Islamia University Bahawalpur has various notable academicians, journalists, jurists, lawyers, literary figures, politicians and sports people, among others as its alumni. The University values in quality teaching and research compatible with national needs focusing on THE IUB core values –Tolerance, Honesty, Eco-friendly, Innovative, Understanding and being Beneficial.

The modern form of Jamia Islamia today exists as the best emerging university with the title of “The Islamia University of Bahawalpur”. In Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings-202, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has declared as 1001+ best in the world, 1st in Pakistani universities in three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 3rd in “No Poverty”, 5th in “Affordable and Clean Energy”. In UI Green Matric World University Ranking-2020, the university ranked on 25 among 53 Pakistani universities and at 637th at world level amongst 1000 international universities. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur had been scored 100% in the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) Online Education Readiness Dashboard, ranked at 3rd position in Pakistan in 2019, in annual research ranking of world-renowned Nature Index, and at 11th position in Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) ranking of universities in 2016. The university currently has more than 1,800 faculty members serving full-time and part-time, which includes 550 PhDs. There are 126 teaching departments offering almost 300 disciplines, providing latest educational facilities for around 46,000 students. Semester system has been introduced in all departments to bring the teaching standard of the University in harmony with international standards along with the recommended latest syllabi of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. There are 15 faculties functioning in IUB, which include Faculty of Law, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Chemical & Biological Sciences, Faculty of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Management Sciences and Commerce, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Languages, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture & Environment, Faculty of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences and Faculty of Online and Distance Education. In addition, four constituent colleges are also functioning which include College of Art and Design, College of Conventional Medicine, College of Nursing and Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Post Graduate Medical College. The university campuses set up at Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan in 2005, providing quality higher education to local students at their door step.
