An Awareness walk to observe the Global Media and Information Literacy week was organized by the Department of Information Management, Faculty of Social Sciences, and SDGs Collaboration Center. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the awareness walk. Later, a seminar on Information and News Literacy in the Digital Age was held at Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Library, Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus. Mr. Imran Javed, Director Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur, and Advisor to DG Radio Pakistan were the invited Guest Speaker. In her address, Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, highlighted the importance of the media and information literacy, she explained to the audience that the Global Media and Information Literacy Week is commemorated annually by the UNESCO, and is a major occasion for mobilizing worldwide stakeholders to raise awareness in order to increase national take-up and celebrate the progress achieved towards Media and Information Literacy for All – underlining the importance of this Global Week, celebrated since 2011. She also shared her personal experiences that how mis-information impact the life. Mr. Imran Javed, Director Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur, highlighted the responsible role of Radio Pakistan in disseminating the facts and discuss with the audience about a mechanism of identifying the fake news. Prof. Dr. Salman Bin Naeem, presented a presentation on the News/Information Literacy in the Digital Age, Dr. Khalid Mehmood Sanghera, Chief Librarian also addressed with the audience. Dr. Mariam Abbas Soharwardi, served as a moderator of the Seminar.

شعبہ انفارمیشن مینجمنٹ، فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز اور SDGs کولابریشن سنٹر کی جانب سے گلوبل میڈیا اور انفارمیشن لٹریسی ویک کے مشاہدے کے لیے آگاہی واک کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔ وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر کی قیادت میں آگاہی واک میں پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز، فیکلٹی ممبران اور طلباء کی کثیر تعداد نے شرکت کی۔ بعدازاں سر صادق محمد خان لائبریری، بغداد الجدید کیمپس میں ڈیجیٹل دور میں معلومات اور خبروں کی خواندگی کے موضوع پر ایک سیمینار منعقد ہوا۔ عمران جاوید، ڈائریکٹر ریڈیو پاکستان بہاولپور کو بطور مہمان خصوصی مدعو کیا گیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی، ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز نے اپنے خطاب میں میڈیا اور انفارمیشن لٹریسی کی اہمیت پر روشنی ڈالی اور انہوں نے حاضرین کو واضح کیا کہ یونیسکو کی جانب سے ہر سال گلوبل میڈیا اینڈ انفارمیشن لٹریسی ویک منایا جاتا ہے اور یہ ایک اہم دن ہے۔ دنیا بھر کے اسٹیک ہولڈرز کو متحرک کرنے کے لیے بیداری پیدا کرنے کا اہم موقع قومی سطح پر اٹھائے جانے کے لیے اور میڈیا اور انفارمیشن لٹریسی فار آل کی جانب حاصل ہونے والی پیش رفت کا جشن منانے کے لیے اس عالمی ہفتہ کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے اپنے ذاتی تجربات بھی بتائے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ غلط معلومات زندگی کو متاثر کرتی ہیں۔ عمران جاوید ڈائریکٹر ریڈیو پاکستان بہاولپور نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ حقائق کو عام کرنے میں ریڈیو پاکستان کے ذمہ دارانہ کردار پر روشنی ڈالی اور سامعین سے جعلی خبروں کی شناخت کے طریقہ کار پر بات کی۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر سلمان بن نعیم نے ڈیجیٹل ایج میں نیوز اور انفارمیشن لٹریسی پر پریزنٹیشن پیش کی، ڈاکٹر خالد محمود سنگھیرا، چیف لائبریرین نے بھی حاضرین سے خطاب کیا۔ ڈاکٹر مریم عباس سہروردی نے سیمینار کی نظامت کے فرائض سر انجام دئیے۔
