Department of English Linguistics the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a two-day International Conference

To explore the challenges posed by newer forms of communication on social networks and tools offered by Artificial Intelligence, to address those challenges, the Department of English Linguistics the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a two-day International Conference titled 'Corpus Tools & Language Sciences: Exploring the Intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Applied Linguistics'. On the first day, research scholars from Department of Linguistics, University of Okara and Department of English Linguistics presented their presentations. On the 2nd day, three speakers from Institute of Corpus Studies and Applications, Shanghai International Studies University, China called upon the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar in his office and exchanged views of mutual interests. The Chinese speakers shared their findings on how Artificial Intelligence was empowering humanities in the form of tools of Artificial Intelligence available for Discourse Analysis. Prof. Dr.  Hu Kaibao, Assistant President of Shanghai International Studies University, China, Dean of Institute of Corpus Studies and Applications, China, Prof. Dr. Geng Qiang, Vice Dean of Institute of Corpus Studies and Applications, China, Dr. Muhammad Afzaal , Associate Professor Institute of Corpus Studies and Applications, China delivered their talks. Dr. Riaz Hussain, head, Department of English Linguistics gave a comprehensive talk on advantages and disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence and how it was being used in language analysis tools.  The sessions on the synergy of AI and Corpus technology were chaired by Dr. Tahira Asgher , Dr. Zahoor Hussain, Dr. Waseem Hassan Gillani, faculty members , Dept. of English Linguistics.   Prof. Dr. Mamuna Ghani Director ETC, and Dr. Muhammad Ilyas Mahmood, Head, Department of Linguistics University of Okara were guests of honour on the occasion. Prof. Dr. Jawad Iqbal, Director Academics & Dean Faculty of Management Sciences and Commerce also addressed the conference attendees.   The Chinese speakers had a meeting with Prof. Dr. Jawed Hassaan Chandio, Dean Faculty of Arts & Languages and discussed avenues of collaborations and explored possibilities of building corpora for regional languages of Pakistan. The conference concluded with recommendations of the conference declaimed by the focal person, Dr. Riaz Hussain, Associate Prof & Head, Dept. of English Linguistics the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

شعبہ انگریزی لسانیات، اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام دو روزہ بین الاقوامی کانفرنس بعنوان کارپس ٹولز اور لینگویج سائنسز، آرٹیفیشل انٹیلی جنس اور اطلاقی لسانیات کے موضوع پر منعقد ہوئی۔ اس موقع پر انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف کارپس اسٹڈیز اینڈ ایپلی کیشنز، شنگھائی انٹرنیشنل اسٹڈیز یونیورسٹی، چین کے تین مقررین نے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر سے ان کے دفتر میں ملاقات کی اور باہمی دلچسپی کے امور پر تبادلہ خیال کیا۔ کانفرنس میں اپنے خطاب میں چینی مقررین نے تفصیلی گفتگو میں کہا کہ کس طرح مصنوعی ذہانت انسانیت کو بااختیار بنا رہی ہے مصنوعی ذہانت کے ٹولز کا استعمال محققین کو ضرور سیکھنا چاہیئے۔ ان مقررین میں پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ہوکائی باؤ، شنگھائی انٹرنیشنل اسٹڈیز یونیورسٹی، چین، اسسٹنٹ صدر انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف کارپس اسٹڈیز اینڈ ایپلی کیشنز چین، ڈین پروفیسر ڈاکٹر گینگ کیانگ، انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف کارپس اسٹڈیز اینڈ ایپلی کیشنز، چین،وائس ڈین ڈاکٹر محمد افضال، ایسوسی ایٹ پروفیسر انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف کارپس اسٹڈیز اینڈ ایپلی کیشنز چین شامل تھے۔ ڈاکٹر ریاض حسین، سربراہ شعبہ انگریزی لسانیات نے مصنوعی ذہانت کے فوائد اور نقصانات اور زبان کے تجزیہ کے ٹولز میں اس کے استعمال کے بارے میں گفتگو کی۔ اے آئی اور کارپس ٹیکنالوجی کی ہم آہنگی پر سیشن کی صدارت ڈاکٹر طاہرہ اصغر، ڈاکٹر ظہور حسین، ڈاکٹر وسیم حسن گیلانی، فیکلٹی ممبران، شعبہ انگریزی لسانیات نے کی۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر میمونہ غنی ڈائریکٹر ای ٹی سی اور ڈاکٹر محمد الیاس محمود، ہیڈ، شعبہ لسانیات یونیورسٹی آف اوکاڑہ اس موقع پر مہمان خصوصی تھے۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جواد اقبال، ڈائریکٹر اکیڈمکس اور ڈین فیکلٹی آف مینجمنٹ سائنسز اینڈ کامرس نے بھی کانفرنس کے شرکاء سے خطاب کیا۔ چینی مقررین نے پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جاوید حسن چانڈیو، ڈین فیکلٹی آف آرٹس اینڈ لینگویجز سے ملاقات کی اور پاکستان کی علاقائی زبانوں کے لیے تعاون کی راہوں اور کارپورا کی تعمیر کے امکانات پر تبادلہ خیال کیا۔ کانفرنس کے فوکل پرسن ڈاکٹر ریاض حسین، ایسوسی ایٹ پروفیسر اور ہیڈ، شعبہ انگریزی لسانیات اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی آف بہاولپور نے مہمانوں کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔ پہلے دن شعبہ لسانیات، یونیورسٹی آف اوکاڑہ اور شعبہ انگریزی لسانیات کے ریسرچ سکالرز نے بھی اپنے مقالات پیش کیے۔
