Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob visited United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) office in Pakistan

Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur visited the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) office in Pakistan and met with the organization's representative Ms. Florence Rolle. Food security and agriculture, intercropping and other important topics were discussed on this occasion. The Vice-Chancellor apprised about the teaching and research measures being taken by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in this regard. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is currently carrying out the most important research projects for the national economy along with promoting cooperation and collaboration at the national and international level in the field of food security. A National Center for Intercropping has been established for intercropping of maize and soybeans, among other important crops, which is conducting research on intercropping of these crops in collaboration with Chinese universities to make the country self-sufficient in edible oil production and it is possible to save the valuable foreign exchange spent on its import. Similarly, this project is also important in the production of poultry feed.  Cotton varieties introduced by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are cultivated on 40% of the area of Punjab province and are very popular among the farming community due to their compatibility with local, climatic and geographical conditions. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is also working on the project of converting Cholistan into a special agro-economic zone through artificial rain project with the help of Punjab government and federal agencies, which is of great importance in the country's agricultural economy and food security. Florence Rolle, representative of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's, appreciated the projects of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He expressed interest in the agricultural research projects of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and emphasized on cooperation with agricultural scientists and researchers. The Vice-Chancellor invited her to visit the Islamia University of Bahawalpur to promote possible collaboration and linkages with the United Nations Organization for these projects.

وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے اقوام متحدہ کے ادارے فوڈ اینڈ ایگریکلچر آرگنائزیشن کے پاکستان میں دفتر کا دورہ کیا اور ادارے کی نمائندہ فلورنس رول سے ملاقات کی۔ اس موقع پر فوڈ سیکورٹی اور زراعت، انٹرکراپنگ اور دیگر اہم موضوعات پر تبادلہ خیال کیا گیا۔ وائس چانسلر نے اس سلسلے میں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کی جانب سے کیے جانے والے تدریسی  و تحقیقی اقدامات سے متعلق آگاہ کیا۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور اس وقت فوڈ سیکورٹی کے ضمن میں قومی اور عالمی سطح پر تعاون اور اشتراک کو فروغ دینے کے ساتھ ساتھ قومی معیشت کے لیے اہم ترین تحقیقی منصوبوں کو جاری رکھے ہوئے ہے۔ مکئی اور سویابین کی مخلوط کاشت سمیت دیگر اہم فصلوں کے لیے نیشنل سنٹر فار انٹرکراپنگ قائم کیا گیا ہے جو چینی جامعات سے ملکر ان فصلوں کی مخلوط کاشت پر تحقیق کر رہا ہے تاکہ وطن عزیز کو خوردنی تیل کی پیداوار میں خود کفیل بنایا جا سکے اور اس کی درآمد پر خرچ ہونے والا قیمتی زرمبادلہ کی بچت ممکن ہو سکے۔ اسی طرح یہ منصوبہ پولٹری فیڈ کی پیداوار میں بھی اہمیت کا حامل ہے۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کی متعارف کردہ کپاس کی اقسام صوبہ پنجاب کے40 فیصد رقبے پر کاشت ہو تی ہیں اور مقامی، موسمی اور جغرافیائی حالات سے مطابقت کے باعث کسان کمیونٹی میں بہت مقبول ہیں۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور حکومت پنجاب اور وفاقی اداروں کی مدد سے چولستان کو بارش کے اضافے کے پراجیکٹ کے ذریعے خصوصی ایگرواکنامک زون میں بدلنے کے منصوبے پر بھی کام جاری رکھے ہوئے ہے جو ملکی زرعی معیشت اور فوڈ سیکورٹی میں بہت اہمیت کی حامل ہے۔ فوڈاینڈ ایگریکلچر کے ادارے کی نمائندہ فلورنس رول نے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے ان منصوبوں کو سراہا۔ انہوں نے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے زرعی تحقیقی منصوبوں میں دلچسپی کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے زرعی سائنسدانوں اور محققین کے ساتھ اشتراک عمل پر زور دیا۔ وائس چانسلر نے انہیں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے دورے کی دعوت دی تاکہ اقوام متحدہ کے ادارے کے ساتھ ان منصوبوں کے لیے ممکنہ اشتراک عمل اور روابط کو فروغ دیا جا سکے۔
