The Department of Geography and Geoinformatics, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, organized a Two-day Hands-on Training on Microwave Remote Sensing to build technical capacity in remote sensing data analysis and promote the use of emerging Earth observation technologies. The two-day training focused on the practical use of microwave satellite data through open-source tools such as SNAP, MATLAB, and Google Earth Engine for object detection, soil moisture analysis, and surface change monitoring, enabling participants to effectively utilize radar technology for a wide range of applications. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran inaugurated the event as Chief Guest. In his address, he appreciated the department’s efforts to promote applied learning and strengthen international collaboration, noting that such initiatives enhance research excellence and practical skills among students and professionals. The Dean, Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Science, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa commended the department’s forward-looking approach and its commitment to integrate modern technologies into teaching and research. Prof. Dr. Sher Muhammad Malik, Chairman of the Department, welcomed the participants and highlighted the growing importance of microwave remote sensing in agriculture, disaster management, urban monitoring, and climate research. He also acknowledged the department’s ongoing collaboration with the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, Cyprus, to strengthen expertise in this emerging field. The resource sessions are being conducted by Dr. Muhammad Amjad Iqbal, an international expert focusing on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data processing and analysis. Participants included PhD. and MPhil scholars, faculty members, and professionals from various departments and organizations such as The Urban Unit, PULSE, and DHA. The ceremony concluded with the Vice Chancellor’s words of appreciation for the department’s initiative and a commitment to continued support for advanced geospatial research and training.

اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے شعبہ جغرافیہ اور جیو انفارمیٹکس نے ریموٹ سینسنگ ڈیٹا کے تجزیہ میں تکنیکی صلاحیت کو بڑھانے اور زمین کے مشاہدے کی ٹیکنالوجی کے استعمال کو فروغ دینے کے لیے مائیکرو ویو ریموٹ سینسنگ پر دو روزہ عملی تربیت کا اہتمام کیا۔ دو روزہ ٹریننگ میں اوپن سورس ٹولز جیسے SNAP ، MATLAB، اور Google Earth Engine کے ذریعے آبجیکٹ کا پتہ لگانے مٹی کی نمی کے تجزیہ اور سطح کی تبدیلی کی نگرانی کے ذریعے مائیکرو ویو سیٹلائٹ ڈیٹا کے عملی استعمال پر توجہ مرکوز کی گئی جس سے شرکاء کو وسیع پیمانے پر ایپلی کیشنز کے لیے راڈار ٹیکنالوجی کو مؤثر طریقے سے استعمال کرنے کے قابل بنایا گیا۔ تقریب کا افتتاح وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد کامران نے کیا۔ انہوں نے اطلاق شدہ سیکھنے کو فروغ دینے اور بین الاقوامی تعاون کو مضبوط بنانے کے لیے شعبہ کی کوششوں کو سراہا اور کہا کہ اس طرح کے اقدامات طلباءوطالبات اور پیشہ ور افراد کے درمیان تحقیقی عمدگی اور عملی مہارت کو بڑھاتے ہیں۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف فزیکل اینڈ میتھمیٹیکل سائنس پروفیسر ڈاکٹر غلام مصطفیٰ نے شعبہ کے مستقبل کے حوالے سے جدید ٹیکنالوجی کو تدریس اور تحقیق میں مربوط کرنے کے عزم کو سراہا۔ شعبہ کے چیئرمین پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شیر محمد ملک نے شرکاء کو خوش آمدید کہا اور زراعت ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ اربن مانیٹرنگ اور کلائمیٹ ریسرچ میں مائیکرو ویو ریموٹ سینسنگ کی بڑھتی ہوئی اہمیت پر روشنی ڈالی۔ انہوں نے اس ابھرتے ہوئے شعبے میں مہارت کو مضبوط بنانے کے لیے ERATOSTHENES سینٹر آف ایکسی لینس قبرص کے ساتھ شعبہ کے جاری تعاون کا بھی ذکر کیا۔ ریسورس سیشن کا انعقاد ڈاکٹر محمد امجد اقبال نے کیا جو ایک بین الاقوامی ماہر ہیں اور مصنوعی یپرچر ریڈار ڈیٹا پروسیسنگ اور تجزیہ کے ماہر ہیں۔
