The U.S. Consul General Ms. Kristin K. Hawkins visited the Islamia University of Bahawalpur

The U.S. Consul General Ms. Kristin K. Hawkins visited the Islamia University of Bahawalpur on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. The visit was scheduled with the purpose of meeting USAID Flood Affected Areas Scholarship recipients of the IUB. The Consul General also met with Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Vice Chancellor in his office at Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus. Director General Scholarships , Higher Education Commission Aayesha Ikram, Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Irshad Hussain, Dean Faculty of Education, Mr. Shaji-ur-Rehman, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Roofi, Prof. Dr. Areeba Khan, Director Financial Assistance, Dr. Shannayara Mehmood, Assistant Professor, and other officials were present on this occasion. The Vice Chancellor introduced her to a brief history of the IUB and its diverse student population. CG Ms. Hawkins expressed appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by the university to address the needs of its diverse student population and conveyed intent for future collaboration in different areas, including scholarships. During her visit, Ms. Hawkins participated in a roundtable interactive session with USAID Flood Affected Areas Scholarship recipients of the IUB and heard their inspiring stories of perseverance. The students expressed their gratitude towards USAID for sponsoring their education after the floods that had not only destroyed their fields and homes but also their chances of higher education. USAID scholarship helped students revive their hopes for a bright future and inspired them to be change makers in their local communities, creating an impact on student diversity and climate action to evade such disasters in the future. Rao Muhammad Azhar, Project Director US Funded Merit and Need Based Scholarship Program at HEC, Hassan Saif PD/Digital Production, IO Methew Wilson Control Officer, USAID Lahore Team Lead Arshia Bano and faculty members Dr. Asif Nadeem, Fatima Junaid, Aga Sadaf Mehdi, and Muzammil Fayaz also attended the event.

بہاول پور () امریکی قونصل جنرل کرسٹین ہاکنز نے گزشتہ دنوں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کا دورہ کیا۔ اس دورے کا اہتمام یو ایس ایڈ کی جانب سے سیلاب سے متاثرہ علاقوں کے اسکالرشپ حاصل کرنے والے طلباء وطالبات سے ملاقات کے لیے کیا گیا تھا۔ امریکی قونصل جنرل کرسٹین ہاکنز نے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر سے ان کے دفتر میں ملاقات کی۔ اس موقع پر ڈائریکٹر جنرل اسکالرشپس ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن عائشہ اکرام، ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی، ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایجوکیشن پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ارشاد حسین، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر یاسمین روفی، رجسٹرار محمد شجیع الرحمان، ڈائریکٹر فنانشل اسسٹنٹس پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اریبہ خان، ڈاکٹر شینہیرہ محمود اور دیگر سینئر حکام موجود تھے۔ وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر نے انہیں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کی تاریخ، فیکلٹی و طلباء و طالبات اور تدریسی پروگرام سے متعلق آگاہ کیا۔ قونصل جنرل کرسٹین ہاکنز نے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کی جانب سے طلباؤ طالبات کی فلاح و بہبود کے لیے کیے گئے اقدامات کی تعریف کی اور اسکالرشپ سمیت مختلف شعبوں میں مستقبل میں تعاون کا اعادہ کیا۔ بعدازاں، قونصل جنرل کرسٹین ہاکنز نے یو ایس ایڈ اسکالرشپ حاصل کرنے والے سیلاب متاثرہ طلباؤ طالبات کے ساتھ خصوصی نشست میں شرکت کی اور سیلاب کے دنوں میں انکی تعلیمی سرگرمیوں پر مرتب ہونے والے اثرات سے آگاہی حاصل کی۔ طلباء و طالبات نے سیلاب کے بعد تعلیم کو جاری رکھنے کے لیے یو ایس ایڈ کے تعاون پر شکریہ ادا کیا۔ معزز مہمان نے کہا کہ یو ایس ایڈ اسکالرشپ نے طالب علموں کو مشکل حالات میں روشن مستقبل کی نوید دی اور انہیں اپنی مقامی کمیونٹیز کے حالات میں بہتری لانے کی ترغیب دی تاکہ نامسائد حالات میں تعلیمی سرگرمیاں جاری رکھی جاسکیں۔
