Industry Academia Dialogue for Budget 2025-26 was held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Organized by the IUB’s Department of Economics and Islamic Banking and Finance, this dialogue was attended by representatives of the Federal Board of Revenue, Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, traders associations, farmer community, private and public business institutions and academia. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran presided over the event and termed it a very important initiative. He said that the work of the university is that of a think tank along with teaching and research, which serves as a source of scientific guidance for public and private sector institutions as well as other social classes for economic development. The coming together of stakeholders in the university for the upcoming budget is a very positive step. Prof. Dr. Abid Rashid Gul and Dr. Areeba Khan briefed on the goals of the previous budget and the upcoming budget. Recommendations were presented in the light of the discussions and opinions of experts on the occasion. According to the budget recommendations, Pakistan’s fiscal budget 2025-26 called for downsizing of underperforming public sector entities, reforming the tax system to reduce reliance on indirect taxes and prioritizing institutional reforms by increasing direct taxes, overcoming energy sector failures by sourcing energy from low-cost and unconventional sources, reviewing the NFC award and promoting fiscal decentralization, increasing national savings and investment to promote sustainable development, promoting high-potential sectors like IT and agriculture, and empowering women through entrepreneurship support and better access to education and health, investing in youth skill development, and aligning social prosperity with productive sectors.
