IUB celebrated and highlighted the importance of World Book Day and Copyright Day

The Department of Library and Information Science, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur celebrated and highlighted the importance of World Book Day and Copyright Day to motivate the students, faculty members and society for promoting reading culture. Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in his special message highlighted that ALLAH (SWT) also send His message to the mankind in form of various religious books for the guidance of human being.  He mentioned that through reading books we can activate our creative and problem solving skills.  He suggested that students should access and read books through various technological channels to get knowledge and share it through research for the betterment of society.   Dr. Joanna Richardson, a Scholarly Communication Consultant, Australia, said that books provide wonderful discovery on any topic, as reading a book is a very fantastic journey.  The president of International Federation of Library Association, (IFLA) Dr. Christine Mackenzie discussed the role of libraries to connect people with books and information.  We can explore history and culture by reading books and know about the experiences of other people.  Professor Dr. Jesus Lau University of Veracruzana Mexico also enumerated several benefits that we can obtain through reading books, he said that “Reading books is a mind exercise and it also reduces stress and increase the sense of happiness”.  Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences said that books reading promote creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and personality grooming of individuals.  She suggested that parents should develop reading habits among their children at the very basic level by promoting reading culture at their home.  Teachers need to encourage students by organizing book club and book societies.  Libraries should organize seminars and book discussions clubs by inviting renowned scholars for promoting reading culture.

شعبہ لائبریری اینڈ انفارمیشن سائنس اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام ورلڈ بک اور کاپی رائٹ ڈے کے موقع پر بین الاقوامی ویبینار کا اہتمام کیا گیا۔پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر نے کہا کہ اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ نے اپنے احکامات اور پیغام بنی نوع انسان تک کتابوں کے ذریعے ہی بھیجے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ الہامی کتابوں کے ذریعے ہی انسانوں کو دنیا اور آخرت کی رہنمائی ملی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کتب کے مطالعہ سے ہی تخلیقی صلا حیت اجاگر ہوتی ہے اور پیچیدہ مسائل کے حل کے لیے نئی راہیں استوار ہوتی ہیں۔ انہوں نے طلباء وطالبات پر زرو دیا کہ ٹیکنالوجی کے مختلف ذرائع کا استعما ل کرتے ہوئے کتاب بینی کو فروغ دیں اور حاصل کردہ معلومات کو معاشرے کی بھلائی کے لیے استعمال کریں۔ابلاغ عامہ کے آسٹریلوی ماہر ڈاکٹر جونا رچرڈسن نے کہا کہ کتابوں کے مطالعہ سے ہی کسی موضوع سے متعلق معلومات حاصل ہوتی ہیں اور مطالعے کا یہ سفر ہمیشہ دلچسپ ہوتا ہے۔صدر انٹرنیشنل فیڈریشن آف لائبریری ڈاکٹر کرسٹین میکنزی نے کہا لائبریاں انسانوں کو کتابوں اور معلومات تک رسائی دیتی ہیں انہی کی مدد سے ہم اپنے تاریخ اور کلچر کا مطالعہ کر سکتے ہیں۔ میکسیکوسے تعلق رکھنے والے پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جوسس لاؤنے بھی کتب بینی کے فوائد سے آگاہ کیا۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی نے کہا کہ کتب بینی سے انسان کی شخصیت میں نکھار پیدا ہوتا ہے اور تخلیقی قوت کے باعث مسائل کا بہترین حل نکل آتاہے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ والدین کو گھروں میں مطالعے کے لیے سازگار ماحول پیدا کرنا چاہیے تاکہ بچوں میں مطالعے کی عادت پیدا ہوسکے۔ اساتذہ بچوں کو بک کلب اور سوسائیٹرزکے ذریعے کتاب بینی کی جانب راغب کریں۔ اسی طرح لائبریوں میں بھی نامورشخصیات کو بلا کر سیمینار منعقد کیے جائیں اور ایک کتاب بینی کے صحت مند کلچر کو فروغ دیا جائے۔
