2nd International Conference on innovation in agriculture and ensuring food security in the context of climate change

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized the 2nd International Conference on innovation in agriculture and ensuring food security in the context of climate change. The conference was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob. Delegates from various universities and institutions including China, America, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Belgium and Pakistan participated in the conference. Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor said that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has become the first university in the country due to research work in the context of environment and climate change. The experts of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur developed cotton seeds that are successful in all these factors in the context of climate change. Similarly, the project of mixed cultivation of corn and soybeans has been started with the cooperation of Chinese universities, due to which the foreign exchange of billions of rupees can be saved in the import of poultry feed and edible oil. Similarly, through rain augmentation project in Cholistan, 7 lakh acres area can be converted into fruit basket of Pakistan. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur's Consortium on Climate Change has become an effective platform at the national and international level with the participation of 60 universities and institutions. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Akhtar Naveed appreciated the organization of the conference and the participation of domestic and foreign delegates in the context of climate change and declared it as welcome for the university. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jameel said that the Faculty of Agriculture is benefiting the farming community through its cutting-edge research. Dean Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences and Conference Patron Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum thanked the Vice Chancellor and other important national institutions in the welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, said in her address that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has become a high-level university by organizing seminars and conferences on the most important topics. Among the important domestic and foreign experts participating in the conference are Dr. Zhaohui Lin, Director International Center for Climate Change and Environment Sciences China, Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali, Director General Agriculture Punjab, Irfan Tariq, former Director General, Dr. Shaukat Ali, Global Change Study Center. Islamabad, Sajid Iqbal, Dr. Muhammad Adeel, Dr. Muhammad Azhar Ehsan, International Center for Climate and Society America, Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed Chattha, Dr. Tahir Hussain Awan, Punjab Agriculture, Research Board Lahore, Dr. Naresh Magan, Dr. Michelle Simoes Reboita, Fritz Bohmler, Prof. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha, Chairman, Department of Social Work, Dr. Abid Gill, Chairman, Department of Economics, and Shahzad Ahmed Khalid, Director, Press Media and Publications, participated. The focal person of the conference, Dr. Wajid Naseem Jatoi, thanked the special patronage of the Vice-Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and the domestic and foreign delegates. On this occasion, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and International Center for Climate and Society, Columbia University, USA.

اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے زیر اہتمام زراعت میں جدت اور موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے تناظر میں فوڈ سیکورٹی کو یقینی بنانے لیے لیے دوسری بین الاقوامی کانفرنس منعقد ہوئی۔ کانفرنس کا افتتاح وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے کیا۔ کانفرنس میں چین، امریکہ، ترکی، متحدہ عرب امارت، برطانیہ، برازیل، کینیڈا، جرمنی، بلجیم اور پاکستان کی مختلف جامعات اور اداروں سے مندوبین نے شرکت کی۔ انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور ماحولیات اور موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے تناظر میں تحقیقی کام کے باعث ملک کی اولین یونیورسٹی بن چکی ہے۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے ماہرین نے موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے تناظر میں کپاس کے ایسے بیج تیار کیے جو ان تمام عوامل میں کامیاب ہیں یہی وجہ ہے کہ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کی کپاس کی اقسام پاکستان کے 40 فیصد زیر کاشت رقبے پر کی جا رہی ہیں۔ اسی طرح مکئی اور سویابین کی مخلوط کاشت کا منصوبہ چینی جامعات کے تعاون سے شروع کیا گیا ہے جس کے باعث پولٹری فیڈ اور خوردنی تیل کی درآمد میں اربوں روپے کے زرمبادلہ کی بچت ہو سکے گی۔ اسی طرح چولستان میں بارش کے اضافے کے پراجیکٹ کے ذریعے 7 لاکھ ایکٹر رقبے کو پاکستان کی فروٹ باسکٹ میں تبدیل کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کا کنسورشیم برائے موسمیاتی تبدیلی 60 جامعات اور اداروں کی شرکت کے باعث قومی اور بین الاقوامی سطح پر موثر پلیٹ فارم بن چکا ہے۔ پرو وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اختر نوید نے موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے تناظر میں کانفرنس کے انعقاد اور ملکی و غیر ملکی مندوبین کی شرکت کو سراہااور یونیورسٹی کے لیے خوش آئند قرار دیا۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر معظم جمیل نے کہا کہ زرعی فیکلٹی کسان کمیونٹی کو اپنی جدید ترین تحقیق کے ذریعے مستفید کر رہی ہے۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف کیمیکل اینڈ بائیو لوجیکل سائنسز اور کانفرنس پیٹرن پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شازیہ انجم نے خطبہ استقبالیہ میں وائس چانسلر اور دیگر اہم قومی اداروں کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور اہم ترین موضوعات پر سیمینارز اور کانفرنسز کے انعقاد سے اعلیٰ درجے کی جامعہ بن چکی ہے۔ کانفرنس میں شریک اہم ملکی اور غیر ملکی ماہرین میں ڈاکٹر زاؤہی لن، ڈائریکٹر انٹرنیشنل سنٹر فار کلائمیٹ چینج اینڈ انوائرمنٹ سائنسز چائینہ،ڈاکٹر محمد انجم علی، ڈائریکٹر جنرل ایگریکلچر پنجاب، عرفان طارق، سابق ڈائریکٹر جنرل، ڈاکٹر شوکت علی، گلوبل چینج سٹڈی سنٹر اسلام آباد، ساجد اقبال، ڈاکٹر محمد عدیل، ڈاکٹر محمد اظہر احسن، انٹرنیشنل سنٹر فار کلائمیٹ اینڈ سوسائٹی امریکہ، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اشفاق احمد چٹھہ، ڈاکٹر طاہر حسین اعوان پنجاب ایگریکلچر، ریسرچ بورڈ لاہور، ڈاکٹر نریش مگن، ڈاکٹر مشیل سیموئزریبوٹا، فرٹزبوہملر، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر آصف نوید رانجھاچیئرمین شعبہ سوشل ورک، ڈاکٹر عابد گل چیئرمین شعبہ معاشیات اورشہزاد احمد خالد ڈائریکٹر پریس میڈیا اینڈ پبلیکیشنز نے شرکت کی۔ کانفرنس کے فوکل پرسن ڈاکٹر واجد نسیم جتوئی نے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبو ب کی خصوصی سرپرستی اور ملکی و غیر ملکی مندوبین کاشکریہ ادا کیا۔ اس موقع پر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پو راور انٹرنیشنل سنٹر فار کلائمیٹ اینڈ سوسائٹی، کولمبیا یونیورسٹی امریکہ کے مابین مفاہمتی یادداشت پر دستخط بھی کیے گئے
