Faculty of LawDean's Message
Keeping in mind the Islamic heritage of the former Bahawalpur State and preserving the legacy of the renowned institution Jamia Islamia Bahawalpur, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Act provided for the establishment of the Faculty of Law. The Faculty was envisioned with a strong academic infrastructure to fulfill the constitutional aspirations of developing a modern legal system grounded in the ideals envisioned at the time of Pakistan's independence.
The introduction of the disciplines of Law and Shariah has remained one of the University's foremost objectives. Although the establishment of the Faculty was envisioned in the University Act of 1975, it was successfully realized through the vision and commitment of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Engr. Athar Mahboob (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz). The Faculty now serves the educational needs of aspiring law students, legal practitioners, jurists and members of the judiciary by providing quality legal education rooted in both national and international legal perspectives.
At present, the Faculty comprises two departments: the Department of Law and the Department of Islamic & Shariah Law. Together, these departments provide comprehensive legal education while laying the foundation for future expansion into additional areas of legal and socio-economic studies.
The Faculty envisions contributing to a peaceful, secure and just society through legal education, research and community engagement. It is committed to becoming a leading center of excellence in contemporary legal scholarship while preserving and advancing the rich intellectual heritage of Classical Islamic jurisprudence.
