Dr. Musarrat Abbas Khan earned his B.Sc. (Hons) Animal Husbandry degree from University of Agriculture Faisal. Later on he completed his M.Phil and Ph.D degree in the discipline of Animal Breeding and Genetics from this same university.
Dr. Musarrat Abbas Khan is currently working as Professor Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics. He started his carrier as Veterinary Officer at Livestock Production Research Institute Bahadurnagar Okara Livestock and Dairy Development Department Government of Punjab. While his 18 years career at Bahadurnagar Okara he served in various capacities including Farm Manager, Research Officer (Buffalo Breeding and Cattle Crossbreeding and lastly as Farm Superintendent. He supervised the breeding, feeding, management of the animals. He looked after the dairy animals, beef animals and sheep. He supervised the farm consisting of 3050 acres of land and monitored the agricultural activities. He provided guidelines for livestock farming to farmers visiting farm and in this way contributed toward the development of the livestock sector. He supervised the feed mill and produced concentrate rationfor provision to Government and Private livestock farms. After serving IUB for about five years as lecturer, he joined as Associate Professor Department of Breeding and Genetics Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bahawalpur. He has honour to serve as Chairman Department of Breeding and Genetics and as Officer Incharge Faculty of Animal Production and Technology CUVAS Bahawalpur. He is pioneer in initiation of BS Animal Sciences at CUVAS Bahawalpur.
Dr. Musarrat Abbas Khan has thirty research papers in national and international journals. He reviewed several research projects funded by different agencies and research papers published by various research journals. He also served as paper reviewer and moderator of the session on animal breeding at the eve of International Buffalo Congress held at Lahore during February 2019.

Research Interests
The main focus of research is dairy and beef cattle production and genetic improvement. He remained involved in genetic improvement programs of Sahiwal cattle and Nili Ravi Buffalo. He supervised progeny testing program for production of quality bulls at Livestock Production Research Institute Bahadurnagar Okara Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab. He supervised beef cattle crossbreeding program at this same institute. He is pioneer in linear type classification of Sahiwal cattle breed. He has rich experience of working on dairy farm. He remained active member during development of breeding policy document and breeding act document at L&DD Punjab. Now his focus of research is on applied aspect of animal breeding and genetics especially for genetic improvement of small ruminants
Awards and Honors
He won indigenous PhD scholarship for doing PhD during year 2003
He won a competitive research project amounting to Rs 23 million rupees from Punjab Agricultural Research Board Punjab during year 2018.
