Profile Summary

Dr. Muhammad Azher Nawaz is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Horticultural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Before that he worked as Assistant Professor and Lecturer at University of Sargodha (2009 to 2023); and Agricultural Officer in the Agriculture Department (Extension), Government of Punjab (2007-2009). He has over 17 years of professional experience in the field of Agriculture/Horticulture. Dr. Nawaz got Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Agriculture (Horticulture) from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. He earned PhD degree from College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China. His major research work is focused on improving the abiotic stress tolerance of horticultural crops using grafting as a technique. He has published research work in reputed journals such as BMC Genomics, Journal of Plant Physiology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Scientia Horticulturae, Plant Growth Regulation, Journal of Plant Growth Regulation, Frontiers in Plant Sciences, and Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. He has published 61 HEC recognized articles with a cumulative impact factor of 161. Additionally, he published several book chapters, agricultural manuals and extension articles for the guidance of the farming community of Pakistan. Dr. Nawaz received Research Productivity Award from Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan during 2012; and won Chinese Government Outstanding Scholar Award from China Scholarship Council (CSC), China during 2018. He remained the Vice-President of Pakistan Society for Horticultural Sciences during the year 2019-2020. Dr. Nawaz supervised 16 M.Sc (Hons) Horticulture students. He has introduced the vegetable grafting technology in Pakistan.
