About Me
Dr. Riaz Hussain earned a Master's degree in English from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. He did his PhD in English Linguistics from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. His doctoral research focused on Computer-assisted Language Learning (CALL). During his PhD, as an action-oriented researcher, he authored Indigenized spoken English CALL materials and conducted an experiment on its effectiveness for teaching English to Pakistani digital natives. After completing his PhD, he served as the head, Dept. of English at the Institute of Southern Punjab, Multan. He is the founding head / Chairman of Dept. of English Linguistics, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. As a goal-driven professional educator, he has served in Pakistan and United Arab Emirates. He has presented research papers at international conferences in Egypt, Albania and Turkey. Our highly motivated and enthusiastic faculty member organized international conferences (2013, 2017, 2019, 2022 & 2023, 2025) colloquiums, symposiums (2017, 2021 & 2022), seminars (2015, 2018, 2019, and 2022, 2026) series of webinars (2021-20122) and workshops (2021& 2022) on linguistics, language teaching and literature in Multan and Bahawalpur. He has published research papers in national and international HEC-recognized journals. Respecting cultural diversity and variations of human terrain, he has authored a social documentary titled ‘Shorter than a Short Story’. He is an HEC recognized supervisor. He has successfully supervised more than 100 M.Phil. and 04 PhD. research scholars. Currently, 5 PhD scholars are completing their PhD research theses under his supervision. As a resource person, he has conducted trainings and delivered talks at various universities of the region. His research interests include Computer-assisted Language Learning, development of CALL materials, indigenization of English, pidgins and creoles, Discourse Analysis, linguistic geography, language and power, inner speech, pragmatics, stylistics, communication skills and semiotics. He is also editor of Journal of Linguistics & Literature.
