Profile Summary

Shakil Akhtar has a PhD in International Relations from University of Central Lancashire, UK and Masters in International Politics from University of Manchester, UK. He serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. He has a diverse and rich experience in various fields, such as journalism, crime investigation, teaching, and research. He also has good education history having specialisation in international relations and some additional qualifications in commerce and statistics. He particularly teaches courses related to international relations and politics at different levels of study. He has a remarkable record of academic publications and presentations, with fourteen research papers and seven conference papers to his credit. He has also taken on various administrative and academic roles, such as incharge examinations, mentor of student societies, member of board of studies, examination committee, board of faculty, external examiner for M. Phil and PhD. He serves as the Managing editor of Department of Political Science's research journal Political Horizons. He has attended many professional trainings, workshops, seminars, and conferences. He has also organised many activities for his department and university including seminars, conferences, workshops, study tours, panel discussions. He is currently supervising eight postgraduate students including five PhD candidates and has successfully guided many M. Phil students to complete their research. His research interests cover a wide range of topics related to Pakistan's foreign relations, especially its relations with USA, India, and China. He also explores the political parties and elections in Pakistan, as well as the influence of media and international politics on public opinion and discourse. He is also keen to study the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its impact on regional stability and development. He uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. Mostly he applies discourse and content analysis to examine his research questions. In his career he has earned many distinctions, awards, and honours.
