Profile Summary

Dr. Muhammad Waqar Aziz is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Punjab, Pakistan. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2017 from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and his M.Phil. in Microbiology in 2020, followed by a Ph.D. in 2023 from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered at the "Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory for Emerging Pathogens" for COVID-19 molecular diagnosis. Notably, during his Ph.D., he played a pivotal role in developing Pakistan's first COVID-19 vaccine. In recognition of his significant contributions to COVID-19 diagnosis, research, and vaccine development, he received accolades from the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Punjab Health Department, and the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council, including a gold medal for his outstanding services.

From 2018 to 2023, Dr. Waqar was also actively involved in a research project titled "Analyzing the Spread of Anthrax in Farms in Pakistan and Jordan," funded by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). His prolific research output includes multiple publications in high-ranking journals. His primary research interests lie in the molecular diagnosis of emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases, such as COVID-19 and anthrax.
