About

I earned an M.Phil. degree from the Department of Anthropology, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. For the partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree in Anthropology, the thesis was presented with the title “Alternate Dispute Resolution Mechanisms: A Case Study of Tribal Areas of Dera Ghazi Khan”. The broader area of the research focused on the resolution of disputes outside the legal framework through a traditional judicial body called Mail-Maraka. Within the broader theme, the research encompasses sub-themes revolving around prevalent disputes in the Tribal Areas attached to the western border of District Dera Ghazi Khan. Cases were documented in minute ethnographic details to develop a deeper understanding of the modes of ruling out disputes. In the last analysis, redress mechanisms, precise modus operandi of Maraka in delivering verdict along with the structure and hierarchy of the traditional judicial body was briefly described.
