Climate Crisis "SMOG" - Awareness Seminar, Awareness Walk and Exhibition organized in this regard at Abbasia Campus, IUB

Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized an awareness walk for awareness on hazards of smog at Abbasia Campus. Dr. Ehtisham Anwar Commissioner Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil Registrar, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Turabi Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment and Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi Director Institute of Agro Industry and Environment participated while a large number of faculty members and students  were also present on this occasion. A poster and model making competition on the topic of smog and air pollution was also organized during the event in which students of the Institute of Agro Industry and Environment participated enthusiastically to create awareness in the community. Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwar appreciated the efforts of the students for making excellent posters/models, and cash prizes were awarded to the best three models. Later, a National Seminar on Environmental Crisis smog was organized by Institute of Agro-industry and Environment (IAE), The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, in collaboration with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), a Non-Government Organization working for underprivileged communities of Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi , Director, Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, delivered the welcome address and made a presentation on understanding smog, causes, effects, and mitigation efforts. He said that the significant impact of smog pollution on crops, animals and humans and the use of green and renewable technologies, increasing urban forests and reducing local emissions can help reduce the onset of smog in urban areas. He also highlighted the Institute of Agro Industry and Environment's research on smog and monitoring of air pollution and conducting a comprehensive survey regarding the Air Quality Index of Bahawalpur. He said that the institute is working to find out the chemical composition of the problem and its causes so that it can be mitigated effectively and where necessary. Muhammad Jodat Kamran Regional Manager Helping Hand for Relief and Development South Punjab and Saad Saeed District Coordinator Bahawalpur introduced the Helping Hand for Relief and Development organization and its ongoing humanitarian projects. Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Turabi, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, proposed the provision of various tree seedlings for the development of urban forests in the air pollution affected areas of Bahawalpur.

انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرمنٹ، اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام عباسیہ کیمپس میں سموگ سے متعلق آگاہی واک منعقد کی گئی جس میں ڈاکٹر احتشام انور کمشنر بہاولپور، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر وائس چانسلر، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر معظم جمیل رجسٹرار، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر تنویر حسین ترابی ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ انوائرنمنٹ اور ڈاکٹر غلام حسن عباسی ڈائریکٹر انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرمنٹ نے شرکت کی۔ اس موقع پر سموگ اور فضائی آلودگی کے موضوع پر پوسٹر اور ماڈل مقابلے بھی منعقد ہوئے جس میں انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرمنٹ کے طلباء نے کمیونٹی میں بیداری پیدا کرنے کے لیے جوش و خروش کے ساتھ حصہ لیا۔ کمشنر بہاولپور ڈاکٹر احتشام انور نے شاندار پوسٹرز/ماڈلز بنانے پر طلباء کی کاوشوں کو سراہا اور بہترین تین ماڈلز پیش کرنے والوں کو نقد انعامات سے نوازا گیا۔ بعدا زاں انسٹیٹیوٹ ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرمنٹ، اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام ہیلپنگ ہینڈ فار ریلیف اینڈ ڈویلپمنٹ کے تعاون سے ماحولیاتی بحران سموگ کے تدارک کے موضوع پر ایک قومی سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر غلام حسن عباس ڈائریکٹر انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرنمنٹ نے خطبہ استقبالیہ پیش کیا اور سموگ کو سمجھنے، اسباب، اثرات، اور تخفیف کی کوششیں کے موضوع پر ایک پریزنٹیشن پیش کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ فصلوں، جانوروں اور انسانوں پر سموگ آلودگی کے اہم اثرات اور سبز اور قابل تجدید ٹیکنالوجیز کا استعمال، شہری جنگلات میں اضافہ اور مقامی اخراج میں کمی سے شہری علاقوں میں سموگ کے آغاز کو کم کرنے میں مدد مل سکتی ہے۔ انہوں نے انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرمنٹ کی ایس ایم او جی پر تحقیق اور فضائی آلودگی کی نگرانی اور بہاولپور کے ایئر کوالٹی انڈیکس کے حوالے سے جامع سروے کے انعقاد پر بھی روشنی ڈالی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ انسٹی ٹیوٹ اس مسئلے کی کیمیائی ساخت اور اس کی وجوہات جاننے کے لیے کام کررہا ہے تاکہ اس کی مؤثر طریقے سے اور جہاں ضرورت ہو وہاں تخفیف کی جا سکے۔  محمد جودت کامران ریجنل منیجر ہیلپنگ ہینڈ فار ریلیف اینڈ ڈویلپمنٹ جنوبی پنجاب اور سعد سعید ڈسٹرکٹ کوآرڈینیٹر بہاولپور نے ہیلپنگ ہینڈ فار ریلیف اینڈ ڈویلپمنٹ آرگنائزیشن اور اس کے جاری انسانی ہمدردی کے منصوبوں کا تعارف پیش کیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر تنویر حسین ترابی ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ انوائرمنٹ نے بہاولپور کیفضائی آلودگی سے متاثرہ علاقوں میں شہری جنگلات کی ترقی کے لیے مختلف درختوں کے پودوں کی فراہمی کی تجویز پیش کی۔ سیمینار کے سٹیج سیکرٹری محمد اشعر ایوب لیکچرار انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ انوائرمنٹ تھے
