Department of Animal Nutrition

The Department of Animal Nutrition has been established with the up gradation of University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The Department has highly qualified skilled faculty with a sound knowledge and understanding of animal nutrition and feed science and technology. The Department has modern feed analysis laboratory and feed formulation computer laboratory for academic and research activities on various aspects of poultry and ruminant nutrition. It has its own camel farm established under Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) project that is being used for research purpose as well as practical training of the students. The Department has always conducted the problem-oriented research in the field of animal nutrition for the support of allied poultry and dairy industries. Along with the academic and research activities, the department has significantly contributed to solving the field problems and helping the farmers of Southern Punjab particularly the Cholistan area. 

Programme Mission:

To provide an ideal opportunity to the students who aim to become animal nutritionists, farm managers, and production managers or even want to become a researcher or academician in the field of veterinary science & animal production

Programme Objectives:

• To produce trained professionals by conducting problem-oriented research in the field of animal nutrition 

• To develop the appropriate knowledge and skills in the field of animal nutrition to serve the poultry industry, dairy industry, feed mills and entrepreneurships

• To provide services like feed formulation and analytical facilities to the farmers and home mixers

After completing this degree, students will be able to:

• Understand the core knowledge about the poultry, beef and dairy nutrition and feed management

• Work as researchers at different research institutes and industry R&D

• Work as the farm manager and feed formulator at different farms & feed mills

• Work as the technical manager at different multinational companies

Programme Objectives and Outcomes alignment

• Researching the alternative feedstuffs, manipulation of feed ingredient in animal’s ration, supplementation of the feed additives and searching for new horizons in the field of animal nutrition 

• Investigations on the growth performance, animal health and welfare, gut microbiota and different in-vivo and in-vitro feed digestibility techniques and laboratory analysis

• Feed formulation and manufacturing, its application to the animals and observation of the results during the research trials
