Department of Physical Therapy of IUB organized a seminar and awareness walk on the occasion of World Polio Day

In collaboration with the World Health Organization and District Health Authority Bahawalpur, the Department of Physical Therapy held a seminar and awareness walk on World Polio day. Dean Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Saeed Ahmed and Prof. Dr. Asadullah Madni graced the ceremony. Dr. Sheraz Khan, Disease Surveillance Officer, World Health Organization, presented the statistics of Polio all around the globe. He also discussed the status of the polio eradication campaign in the world as well as in Pakistan. He discussed the challenges that remain in eradicating polio from the country, as well as the progress that has been made in recent years, current strain of polio virus, types of vaccines available, criteria for reporting the Acute flaccid paralysis, responsibilities of physical therapist in Acute flaccid paralysis. He answered the questions from the audience about the polio and vaccination. Prof. Dr. Asadullah Madni spoke about the role of health professionals and health organizations in polio eradication campaign all around the globe. He discussed the different types of interventions that can help polio survivors to improve their mobility, function, and quality of life. In-Charge of Department of Physical Therapy Dr. Ayesha Bashir, raises the need for awareness regarding the Polio vaccination. And emphasized the responsibility of Physical Therapists in reporting the cases of acute flaccid paralysis. She also emphasized the role of physical therapists in helping Post-Polio syndrome and polio survivors to achieve their full potential. Dr. Afifa Latif was present at that moment. The seminar and awareness Walk was a success, and they helped to raise awareness about polio among the IUB community. The event also helped to promote the role of physical therapy in helping polio survivors to achieve their full potential.

شعبہ فزیکل تھراپی اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے ورلڈ ہیلتھ آرگنائزیشن اور ڈسٹرکٹ ہیلتھ اتھارٹی بہاولپور کے تعاون سے پولیو کے عالمی دن کے حوالے سے سیمینار اور آگاہی واک کا انعقاد کیا۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف میڈیسن اینڈ الائیڈ ہیلتھ سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر سعید احمد اور پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اسد اللہ مدنی نے تقریب کی صدارت کی۔ ورلڈ ہیلتھ آرگنائزیشن کے ڈیزیز سرویلنس آفیسر ڈاکٹر شیراز خان نے پوری دنیا میں پولیو کے اعدادوشمار پیش کیے۔ انہوں نے دنیا کے ساتھ ساتھ پاکستان میں پولیو کے خاتمے کی مہم کی صورتحال پر بھی تبادلہ خیال کیا۔ انہوں نے ملک سے پولیو کے خاتمے میں درپیش چیلنجز کے ساتھ ساتھ حالیہ برسوں میں ہونے والی پیش رفت، پولیو وائرس کے موجودہ تناؤ، دستیاب ویکسین کی اقسام، شدید فلیکسڈ فالج کی رپورٹنگ کے معیار، فزیکل تھراپسٹ کی ذمہ داریوں پر تبادلہ خیال کیا۔ انہوں نے پولیو اور ویکسینیشن سے متعلق حاضرین کے سوالات کے جوابات دیئے۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اسد اللہ مدنی نے دنیا بھر میں پولیو کے خاتمے کی مہم میں ہیلتھ پروفیشنلز اور ہیلتھ آرگنائزیشنز کے کردار کے بارے میں بات کی۔ انہوں نے مداخلت کی مختلف اقسام پر تبادلہ خیال کیا جو پولیو سے بچ جانے والے افراد کی نقل و حرکت، کام اور معیار زندگی کو بہتر بنانے میں مدد کر سکتے ہیں۔ شعبہ فزیکل تھراپی کی انچارج ڈاکٹر عائشہ بشیر نے پولیو ویکسینیشن کے حوالے سے آگاہی کی ضرورت پر زور دیا اور شدید فلیکسڈ فالج کے کیسز کی رپورٹنگ میں فزیکل تھراپسٹ کی ذمہ داری پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے پوسٹ پولیو سنڈروم اور پولیو سے بچ جانے والے افراد کو ان کی مکمل صلاحیتوں کو حاصل کرنے میں مدد کرنے میں فزیکل تھراپسٹ کے کردار پر بھی زور دیا۔ اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر عفیفہ لطیف موجود تھیں۔ سیمینار اور آگاہی واک سے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے کمیونٹی میں پولیو کے بارے میں بیداری پیدا کرنے میں مدد کی۔ اس تقریب نے پولیو سے بچ جانے والوں کو ان کی مکمل صلاحیتوں کو حاصل کرنے میں مدد کرنے میں جسمانی تھراپی کے کردار کو فروغ دینے میں بھی مدد کی۔
