IUB Media Studies Department Conduct a Webinar on Islamophobia and the Western World

A webinar on Islamophobia and the Western World was organized by the Department of Media Studies, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Scholar and anchor Orya Maqbool Jan, Former Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean Islam phobia Expert Professor Zafar Iqbal, Department of Islamic Communication, Islamic International University, Islamabad addressed the gathering. In addition to the faculty, staff and students of Islamia University Bahawalpur and other universities, distinguished citizens also participated in the webinar. In his introductory remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that in the current international situation but it is very important to discuss it because it is widening the gap between the Islamic world and the West. The leadership and intellectuals of the Muslim world should work together at the intellectual, scientific and diplomatic level to bridge this gap, and the West should try to understand the feelings, emotions and position of the Muslim world in a positive and constructive way. He said that holding a webinar on Islamophobia by Media Studies is a commendable initiative and hoped that this webinar would prove to be a milestone in finding a scientific solution to this problem at the scientific and intellectual level. Prof. Dr. Akram Chaudhry, former Vice Chancellor, Sargodha University, said that this fear was ingrained in the polytheists from the very beginning of Islam, but now we see it in the current context, the world's fastest growing religion is the Islam. Well-known scholar and anchor Orya Maqbool Jan said that the basis of Islamophobia is not religious in any way but it is a war of culture and economy in which the West attributes Islam to terrorism for its own benefit. Addressing the webinar, Dr. Saleem Tariq, former Dean, Faculty of Islamic Learning, said that due to this phobia, the Muslim world, despite being in the majority, is so entangled in regional issues that they launch any media attack against Islam. The Muslim world needs a strong intellectual leadership that can respond to the anti-Islamic agenda presented by the West at the international level. Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Chairman, Department of Media Studies, Islamic International University, Islamabad, said in his address that there have always been contradictions and clashes between religions. Islamophobia has now become an industry. It exists in the form of economic Islamophobia, racial and negative Islamophobia, cultural and security threats. It is now necessary for the Muslim Ummah to confront this from the OIC platform through scholarly and reasoning debate at the university level. Chairman Media Studies Prof. Dr. Abdul Wajid Khan thanked all the audience and the webinar was hosted by Muhammad Bilal Bhatti. The webinar was attended online by teachers, deans and many other participants.

ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف میڈیا سٹڈیزاسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام اسلاموفوبیا اور مغربی دنیا کے موضوع پر ایک ویبینار منعقد کیا گیا۔ویبینار سے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب، سابق وائس چانسلر سرگودھا یونیورسٹی اور معروف اسلامی محقق پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اکرم چوہدری، معروف تجزیہ نگارو سابق سول سرونٹ اور یا مقبول جان، سابق ایکٹنگ وائس چانسلر و ڈین اسلاموفوبیاایکسپرٹ پروفیسر ظفر اقبال  شعبہ ابلاغیات اسلامک انٹر نیشنل یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد نے خطاب کیا۔ ویبینار میں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور اور دیگر یونیورسٹیوں کے اساتذہ، ملازمین اور طلباء وطالبات کے علاوہ معزز شہریوں نے بھی بھرپور شرکت کی۔وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے افتتاحی کلمات میں کہا کہ موجودہ بین الاقوامی حالات کے تناظر میں اسلاموفوبیا کو علمی و فکری سطح پر زیر بحث لانا انتہائی ضروری اور اہمیت کا حامل ہے کیونکہ اس کی وجہ سے مسل دنیا اور مغرب کے درمیان خلیج و سیع ہوتی جا رہی ہے۔ مسلم دنیا کی قیادت اور دانشوروں کو اس خلیج کو باٹنے کے لیے فکری علمی تحقیقی اور سفارتی سطح پر مل بیٹھ کر کوشش کرنا چاہیے اور مغرب کو مسلم دنیا کے احساسات، جذبات اور موقف کو مثبت و تعمیری انداز میں سمجھنے کی کوشش کرنا چاہیے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ میڈیا سٹڈیز کی جانب سے اسلاموفوبیا کے موضوع پر ویبینار کا انعقادایک لائق تحسین اقدام ہے اور توقع رکھتے ہیں یہ ویبینار علمی و فکری سطح پر اس مسئلے کا علمی و فکری حل نکالنے میں ایک سنگ میل ثابت ہوگا۔ویبینار سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اکرم چوہدری سابق وائس چانسلر سرگودھا یونیورسٹی نے کہا کہ اسلام کے آغاز کے ساتھ ہی یہ خوف مشرکین میں جاگزیں تھا لیکن اب ہم اس کو موجودہ تناظر میں دیکھتے ہیں تو دنیا تیزی سے پھیلنے والا مذہب اسلام ہے جو ان کی ثقافتی اور معاشی اور معاشرتی زندگی کو یکسر بدل سکتا ہے۔معروف سکالر اور اینکر اوریا مقبول جان نے کہا کہ اسلاموفوبیاکی بنیادکسی طور پر مذہبی نہیں ہے بلکہ یہ ایک ثقافت اور معیشت مفاد کی جنگ ہے جس میں مغرب اپنے مفاد کی خاطر اسلام کو دہشت گردی سے منسوب کر رہا ہے۔سابق ڈین فیکلٹی آف اسلامک لرننگ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر سلیم طارق نے ویبینار سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ اس فوبیا کی وجہ سے مسلم دنیا کثرت میں ہونے کے باوجود علاقائی مسائل میں اس قدر الجھے ہوئے ہیں کہ وہ اسلام کے خلاف کسی بھی میڈیا یلغار کا متحد ہو کر جواب دینے کے قابل نہیں۔ مسلم دنیا کو ایک مضبوط فکری قیادت کی ضرورت ہے۔جو بین الاقوامی سطح پر مغرب سے پیش کیے جانے والے اسلام کے خلاف ایجنڈے کا جواب دے سکے۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ظفر اقبال چیئرمین ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف میڈیا سٹڈیز اسلامک انٹرنیشنل یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ مذاہب میں تضادات اور تصادم ہمیشہ سے موجود رہے ہیں۔ اسلاموفوبیا اب انڈسٹری بن چکا ہے۔کہیں یہ اکنامک اسلاموفوبیا، کہیں رنگ ونسل اور منفی اسلاموفوبیا، کہیں ثقافتی اور کہیں سیکورٹی خطرات کی صورت میں موجود ہے۔ اب ضرورت ہے کہ مسلم امہOICکے پلیٹ فارم سے یونیورسٹیز کی سطح پر علمی اور استدلالی مباحثہ کے ذریعے اس کا مقابلہ کرے۔ چیئرمین میڈیا سٹڈیز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر عبدالواجد خان نے تما م سامعین اور حاضرین کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور ویبینار کے میزبان محمد بلال بھٹی تھے۔ ویبینار میں اساتذہ، ڈینز اور بہت سے دیگر شرکاء نے آن لائن شرکت کی۔
