IUB organized a training workshop on General Education Courses and Open Education Resources

Department of Education the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a training workshop on General Education Courses and Open Education Resources. On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob delivered a detailed lecture on modern teaching methods and research and open education resources available in various universities around the world. He said that due to the extraordinary advancement in technology in today's world, there has been a significant innovation and change in the proposed methods of teaching and research. The world is going through a period of great changes in the fourth industrial age where artificial intelligence is giving a new direction to information technology is setting new milestones of development by formulating their scientific discoveries on the most modern principles. He said that there is a need to focus on 14 subjects at the level of Associate Degree Program in General Education courses so that our students can gain a solid academic foundation for success at the postgraduate level and also in practical life. Students should have access to these 14 subjects including English Composition, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, Basic Health Awareness, Communication Skills, General Mathematics, General Science, Information Technology Skills, Understanding of Quran, Critical Thinking and Reasoning, Constitution and Legal System of Pakistan, Foreign Language and Regional Language, Urdu Literature, Civilization and Society. Dean Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Akhtar Ali thanked the Vice Chancellor for dedicating the whole day in the special workshop. Workshop Coordinator and Chairman Department of Education Prof. Dr. Irshad Hussain said that in the workshop the Vice Chancellor provided information to the faculty members from the open educational sources available all over the world. He said that the Vice Chancellor told the faculty members that in a diverse world, for tolerance and coexistence, it is very important to teach our students these factors so that they can play an active role in their professional life. Prices of books are printed teaching material increasing day by day and it is becoming beyond the reach of not only students but also teachers. In this case, the teaching materials available on the Internet are very useful, which are free and easily available. The objective of the workshop was to provide awareness to the students about MOOC and other online courses accessibility.

شعبہ ایجوکیشن اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کی جانب سے جنرل ایجوکیشن کورسز اور اوپن ایجوکیشن ریسورسز کے موضوع پر تربیتی ورکشاپ کا اہتمام کیا گیا۔ اس موقع پر وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے شرکاء کو تدریس و تحقیق میں جدید اسلوب اور دنیا بھر کی مختلف جامعات میں دستیاب اوپن ایجوکیشن ریسورسز کے بارے میں تفصیلی لیکچر دیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ موجودہ دنیا میں ٹیکنالوجی میں ہونے والی غیر معمولی ترقی کے باعث تدریس و تحقیق کے مجوزہ طریقوں میں بھی نمایاں جدت اور تبدیلی آئی ہے۔ دنیا چوتھے صنعتی دور کی عظیم تبدیلیوں کے دور سے گزر رہی ہے جہاں پر مصنوعی ذہانت انفارمیشن ٹیکنالوجی کو ایک نیا رخ دے رہی ہے اور بنی نوح انسان اپنی علمی کھوج کو انتہائی جدید اصولوں پر مرتب کرکے ترقی کی نئی منزلیں طے کر رہا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جنرل ایجوکیشن کورسز میں ایسوسی ایٹ ڈگری پروگرام کی سطح پر چودہ مضامین پر توجہ دینے کی ضرورت ہے تاکہ ہمارے طلباء وطالبات پوسٹ گریجویٹ سطح پر اور عملی زندگی میں بھی کامیابی کے لیے ایک ٹھوس علمی بنیاد حاصل کر سکیں۔ہمارے طلباء و طالبات کو ان چودہ مضامین پردسترس حاصل ہونی چاہیے ان میں انگلش کمپوزیشن، اسلامک سٹڈیز، پاکستان سٹڈیز، بیسک ہیلتھ ایورنس، کمونیکیش سکیل، جنرل میٹھمیٹکس، جنرل سائنس،انفارمیشن ٹیکنالوجی سکیل،قرآن فہمی، تنقیدی سوچ اور استدلال،آئین اورپاکستان کا تاریخی نظام، علاقائی اور بین الاقوامی زبانیں، اردو ادب، سلوئزیشن اینڈ سوسائٹی شامل ہیں۔اس موقع پر ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایجوکیشن ڈاکٹر اختر علی نے خصوصی ورکشاپ میں پورا دن وقف کرنے پر وائس چانسلر کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔ ورکشاپ کورڈینیٹر اور چیئرمین شعبہ ایجوکیشن پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ارشاد حسین نے کہا کہ ورکشاپ میں وائس چانسلر نے فیکلٹی ممبران کو دنیا بھر میں موجود اوپن تعلیمی ذرائع سے آگاہی فراہم کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وائس چانسلر نے فیکلٹی ممبران کو بتایا کہ ایک متنوع دنیا میں رواداری اور بقائے باہمی کے لیے ہمارے طلباء وطالبات کو ان عوامل کی تدریس بہت ضروری ہے تاکہ وہ پیشہ ورانہ زندگی میں فعال کردار ادا کر سکیں گے۔درس کتب کی قیمت روزبروز بڑھتی جار ہی ہیں اوریہ نہ صرف طلباء وطالبات بلکہ اساتذہ کی دسترس سے بھی باہر ہو رہی ہیں۔ اس صورت حال میں انٹرنیٹ پر موجود تدریسی مواد بہت کارآمد ہوجاتا ہے جو مفت ہے اور آسانی سے دستیاب بھی ہے۔ اسی وجہ سے اس ورکشاپ کا انعقاد کیا گیا تاکہ طلباء و طالبات کو MOOCاور دیگر آن لائن کورسز کے بارے میں آگاہی فراہم کی جائے۔
