MoU with the University of Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain for the conservation of the heritage of South Punjab

The Islamia University Bahawalpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University of Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain for the conservation of the heritage of South Punjab. In the session presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages Prof. Dr. Javed Hassan Chandio, Dean Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum and Director of Culture and Heritage Research, Dr. Abid Shahzad, Director of International Linkages, Dr. Moazzam Durrani, Department of Anthropology and University of Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Prof. Dr. Marco Mandela and Prof. Dr. Cristina Pujades participated in the online session. Dr. Marco gave a detailed briefing on his work on the Indus Valley Civilization focusing on archaeological studies and excavations. He highlighted various projects, especially the efforts of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur for the discovery and preservation of archeology in Cholistan. Waqar Mushtaq introduced Prof. Marco to the audience and presented the objectives of the MoU. Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur emphasized the importance of Hakkra Valley civilization and the future of archaeological research. Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum informed about the ongoing research in Cholistan since last year. Prof. Dr. Javed Hassan Chandio thanked Prof. Marco for his cooperation and invited him to come to Bahawalpur in the next season, which Dr. Marco accepted. Dr. Moazzam Durrani discussed the importance of built heritage and museums in the Bahawalpur region, highlighting the potential of tourism and its impact on the economic development of the region. The two sides later signed a four-year, extendable cooperation agreement to jointly work on the archeology of southern Punjab.

جنوبی پنجاب کے ورثے کے تحفظ کے لیے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے یونیورسٹی پومپیو فابرا، بارسلونا، سپین کے ساتھ ایک مفاہمتی یادداشت پر دستخط کیے ہیں۔ وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر کی زیر صدارت ہونے والے سیشن میں ڈین فیکلٹی آف آرٹس اینڈ لینگوئجز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جاوید حسن چانڈیو، ڈین فیکلٹی آف کیمیکل اینڈ بائیولوجیکل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شازیہ انجم اور ڈائریکٹر کلچر اینڈ ہیریٹیج ریسرچ، ڈاکٹر عابد شہزاد، ڈائریکٹر انٹرنیشنل لنکیجز، ڈاکٹر معظم درانی شعبہ بشریات اور یونیورسٹی پومپیو فابرا، بارسلونا، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر مارکو منڈیلا اور پروفیسر ڈاکٹر کرسٹینا پوجاڈس نے آن لائن سیشن میں شرکت کی۔ ڈاکٹر مارکو نے آثار قدیمہ کے مطالعہ اور کھدائیوں پر توجہ مرکوز کرتے ہوئے وادی سندھ کی تہذیب پر اپنے کام کی تفصیلی بریفنگ دی۔ انہوں نے مختلف پراجیکٹس پر روشنی ڈالی، خاص طور پر چولستان میں آثار قدیمہ کی دریافت اور محفوظ بنانے کے لیے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پورکی کوششوں کو سراہا۔ وقار مشتاق نے حاضرین سے پروفیسر مارکو کا تعارف کرایا اور مفاہمت نامے کے مقاصد پیش کیے۔پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نوید اختر وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے وادی ہاکٹرہ کی تہذیب کی اہمیت اور آثار قدیمہ کی تحقیق کے مستقبل پر زور دیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شازیہ انجم نے چولستان میں گزشتہ سال سے جاری تحقیق سے آگاہ کیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جاوید حسن چانڈیو نے تعاون پر پروفیسر مارکو کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور اگلے سیزن میں بہاولپور آنے کی دعوت دی جسے ڈاکٹر مارکو نے قبول کر لیا۔ ڈاکٹر معظم درانی نے بہاولپور کے علاقے میں تعمیر شدہ ورثے اور عجائب گھروں کی اہمیت پر گفتگو کی، سیاحت کی صلاحیت اور خطے کی اقتصادی ترقی پر اس کے اثرات کو اجاگر کیا۔ بعدآزاں دونوں فریقوں نے جنوبی پنجاب کے آثار قدیمہ پر مشترکہ طور پر کام کرنے کے لیے چار سالہ، قابل توسیع تعاون کے معاہدے پر دستخط کیے۔
