Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar has taken charge of the post of Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob after completing his four Year tenure handed over the charge of Vice-Chancellor to Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus Bahawalpur last evening. Registrar Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil was also present on this occasion. Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar is an expert with a strong background in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. He was born in Bahawalpur, Pakistan and received his primary education from Government Abbasia High School and Government Sadiq Egerton College, Bahawalpur. He completed his B Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) degree in 1989 and MPhil (Master of Philosophy) degree in Pharmaceutics from Punjab University in 1991. In 1994, Dr. Naveed Akhtar joined the Islamia University of Bahawalpur as a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics. He recognized the importance of further education and pursued a PhD in Pharmaceutical Cosmetics Technology from Anadolu University, Eskişehir, Turkey, which he successfully completed in 2001. On his return to Pakistan, Dr. Naveed Akhtar established the first state-of-the-art pharmaceutical cosmetics laboratory in the country. This laboratory has played a central role in advancing research and development in the field of pharmaceutical cosmetics within Pakistan. Dr. Naveed Akhtar has shown dedication to education and research throughout his career. He has supervised and mentored numerous students, guiding them to higher degrees and academic success. Under his supervision, 35 PhD and 100 MPhil scholars have successfully completed their studies. Dr. Naveed Akhtar has also contributed significantly to the scientific literature, publishing around 300 research articles. His expertise and knowledge in pharmacy and cosmeceuticals is further illustrated by the authorship of 6 books, establishing him as a leading figure in the field. His commitment to research has been recognized by various funding agencies and has supported He has successfully completed 6 research projects with the support of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Science Foundation. Apart from his academic achievements, Dr۔ Naveed Akhtar has achieved significant milestones in his professional career. He has made steady progress at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, being elected as Assistant Professor in 2003, Associate Professor in 2008, and finally promoted to the rank of Professor in 2011. These developments reflect his expertise, experience and impact in the field of pharmaceutical science. He served as Principal of the University College of Conventional Medicine from 2009-15, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy from 2011-2022 and later as Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy in 2017 and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences in 2021. . He was appointed Pro Vice Chancellor of Islamia University Bahawalpur in 2022. These roles have allowed him to play a key role in the overall growth and development of the university, initiating flagship allied health sciences programs, research initiatives, and faculty development. He chaired several committees for the smooth running of the affairs of the university and always played an ethical and fair role in all matters. As a scion of Bahawalpur, Dr. Naveed Akhtar's personal connection to the region has further strengthened his dedication to the development and progress of the University and the community. His recognition as a "Son of the Earth" symbolizes his promotion of acceptance, trust, integration and mutual respect within the local community. Dr. Naveed Akhtar's adherence to university rules and regulations, and understanding of the local context have contributed to his contribution to education, research and administration. His work has had a positive impact on the University and the wider Bahawalpur community, making him a highly respected figure in the University and the community. Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar has been honored with several prestigious awards and honors for his distinguished service. It's done. Among these awards are the "Star Pakistan Gold Medal Award" and the "Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal", both awarded in 2011 by Tehreek-e-Istaqam Pakistan Council (Registered) Pakistan.
