Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between IUB and PIDE Islamabad for mutual cooperation and collaboration

The Islamia University Bahawalpur and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad organized a seminar on reforms agenda for long-term economic development at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus. The seminar was presided over by Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob and the chief guest was Vice Chancellor Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad Prof. Dr. Nadeem ul Haq. Commissioner Bahawalpur Raja Jahangir Anwar participated as the guest of honour in the concluding session. President Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chaudhry Zulfikar Ali Mann, Pro Vice Chancellor Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad Dr. Durr-e-Nayab, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti and Chairman of the Department of Economics Dr. Abid Rasheed Gill and faculty members were present on this occasion. The participants said that universities provide the blueprint and framework for social and economic development. Research in universities can actually play a key role in social and economic development, policy-making institutions should consult the experts in universities to deal with the existing social, especially economic problems. Pakistan is a country rich in natural resources. Pakistan needs the best economic road map for which universities can play a pivotal role. Pakistan needs long-term and short-term planning for sustainable development. All the social and political circles of the country should agree on the charter of economy for the economic development of Pakistan. The economic reform agenda can be formulated with the help of experts and researchers in universities. By following which, Pakistan can get rid of the economic crisis. Pakistan is rich in manpower and natural resources. What is required is proper planning and execution. During the seminar, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad for mutual cooperation and collaboration. Later, the participants of the seminar discussed in separate groups on the topic of social attitudes, social capital, institutional reforms, role of community in policy making.

اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور اور پاکستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈویلپمنٹ اکنامکس اسلام آباد کے زیرا ہتمام دیرپا معاشی ترقی کے لیے اصلاحاتی ایجنڈے کے موضوع پر بغداد الجدید کیمپس میں سیمینار منعقد ہوا۔ سیمینار کی صدارت وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے کی اور مہمان خصوصی وائس چانسلر پاکستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈویلپمنٹ اکنامکس اسلام آبادپروفیسر ڈاکٹر ندیم الحق تھے۔ اختتامی سیشن میں کمشنر بہاول پور راجہ جہانگیر انور بطور مہمان اعزاز خصوصی طور پر شریک ہوئے۔ اس موقع پر صدر بہاول پور چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری چوہدری ذوالفقار علی مان، پرو وائس چانسلر پاکستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈویلپمنٹ اکنامکس اسلام آبادڈاکٹر درِنایاب، ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی اور چیئرمین شعبہ معاشیات ڈاکٹر عابد رشید گل اور فیکلٹی ممبران موجود تھے۔ شرکاء کا کہنا تھا کہ جامعات معاشرتی اور معاشی ترقی کے لیے لائحہ عمل اور فریم ورک مہیا کرتی ہیں۔ جامعات میں ہونے والی تحقیق ہی اصل میں معاشرتی اور معاشی ترقی میں کلیدی کردار ادا کرسکتی ہیں۔ پالیسی ساز اداروں کو چاہیے کہ وہ معاشرتی خصوصاً موجود ہ معاشی مسائل سے نمٹنے کے لیے جامعات میں موجود ماہرین سے رجوع کریں۔ پاکستان وسائل سے مالا مال ملک ہے۔ پاکستان کو بہترین معاشی روڈ میپ کی ضرور ت ہے جس کی فراہمی کے لیے جامعات بنیادی کردار ادا کرسکتی ہیں۔ وطن عزیز پاکستان کو دیرپا ترقی کے لیے طویل مدتی اور مختصر مدت پلاننگ کی ضرورت ہے۔ ملک کے تمام سماجی اور سیاسی حلقے پاکستان کی معاشی ترقی کے لیے میثاق معیشت پر متفق ہو جائیں۔ معاشی اصلاحات کا ایجنڈا جامعات میں موجود ماہرین اور محققین کی مدد سے مرتب کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ جس پر عمل کر کے پاکستان کو معاشی بحران سے نکلا جا سکتا ہے۔ پاکستان میں افرادی قوت اور قدرتی وسائل کی فراوانی ہے۔ ضرورت مناسب منصوبہ بندی اور اس پر عملدرآمد کی ہے۔ سیمینار کے دوران اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور اور پاکستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈویلپمنٹ اکنامکس اسلام آبادکے مابین باہمی تعاون و اشتراک کے لیے مفاہمتی یادداشت پر دستخط ہوئے۔ بعدازاں سیمینار کے شرکاء نے سماجی رویوں، سوشل کیپٹل، ادارہ جاتی اصلاحات، پالیسی سازی میں کمیونٹی کا کردار کے موضوع پر علیحدہ علیحدہ گروپوں میں تبادلہ خیال کیا اور سفارشات مرتب کیں۔
