The Department of Horticultural Sciences, FA&E, IUB has established a certified plant nursery which was certified by the Federal Seed Certification Department after fulfillment of several technical and critical requirements of the certification body. This nursery is first of it's kind, established in Bahawalpur region which currently has the capacity to produce around 10 thousand plants, and the Department of Horticultural Sciences intends to expand its capacity to 100 thousands during next two years. This nursery will provide appropriately propagated and certified fruit, vegetable and ornamental plants to the farming and general community on lowest possible prices with the intention of increasing green matrix, food and nutritional security, farmer income and employment. This initiative will also provide the students with hands-on learning opportunities for commercial nursery operations and entrepreneurship. Moreover, certain training workshops for farmers and the general community regarding nursery operations will also be conducted along the due course. The sales of sanitized, appropriately propagated and tagged fruit plants including mango, citrus, guava, jamun, fig will commence during 2023. We are thankful to the Worthy Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob (T.I.) for facilitating such initiatives and believing in R&D and capacity building of students, university employees, local community and farmers.

انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے ویژ ن کے مطابق یونیورسٹی کے مختلف تدریسی و تحقیقی شعبہ جات مختلف منصوبوں پر کام کررہے ہیں تاکہ یونیورسٹی خودکفالت کی منزل حاصل کر سکے۔ شعبہ ہارٹیکلچر سائنسزفیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ سائنسزنے سرٹیفائیڈ پلانٹ نرسری قائم کی ہے جسے فیڈرل سیڈز سرٹیفکیٹ ڈیپارٹمنٹ نے مختلف تکنیکی مراحل اور جانچ پڑتال کے بعد مستند قرار دیا ہے۔ بہاول پور ڈویژن میں اپنی نوعیت کی پہلی سرٹیفائیڈ نرسری ہے جو 10ہزار پودے فراہم کرنے کی استعداد رکھتی ہے جسے آئندہ دو برسوں میں ایک لاکھ پودوں تک بڑھادیا جائے گا۔ یہ نرسری پھلوں، سبزیوں اور سجاوٹی پودوں کے سرٹیفائیڈ پودے کسانوں اور عام لوگوں کو فراہم کرے گی۔ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر معظم جمیل نے کہا کہ اس نرسری سے کسانوں کو کم قیمت پر اصل کوالٹی کے پودے فراہم ہوں گے جس سے روزگار میں اضافے کے ساتھ ساتھ کسانوں کی آمدن میں بھی اضافہ ہوگا۔ ڈاکٹر محمد نفیس چیئرمین شعبہ ہارٹیکلچر نے کہاکہ یہ نرسری طلباء کو تربیت فراہم کرنے اور تحقیقی مقاصد کے ساتھ ساتھ تجارتی بنیادوں پر کام کرے گی اور یونیورسٹی کی آمدنی کا باعث بننے گی۔ نرسری میں آم، کینوں، امرود، جامن اورانجیر کے پودے 2023میں دستیاب ہوں گے۔
