The First International Conference on Climate Change organized by Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has started at Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus. In the inaugural session, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, University of Sahiwal Prof. Dr. Javed Akhtar, Vice Chancellor Sindh Madrasah ut Islam Karachi Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sehrai Memon, Vice Chancellor University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Prof Dr. Moazzam Jamil and Director Institute of Agro Industry and Environment Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi spoke. Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said in his address that climate change is a global problem and to deal with it and its long-term solution, it has to be part of our values. Climate change is actually a problem of human survival and its solution requires individual and collective efforts. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, raised the issue of climate change at the global level in the recent international conference and climate diplomacy was emphasized. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has started from home to this challenge on the principle of solving local problems in a global context. Three years ago, looking at the same challenges, the new core values of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Tolerance, Honesty, Eco-Friendly, Innovative, Understanding and Beneficial were formulated and made a part of the university policy. Under the Green Campus campaign, making university campuses environment-friendly and minimizing the use of water, food and other consumables and preventing wastage is a part of this campaign and a large team of university faculty members are trying to implement it. The Institute of Agro-Industry and Environment has been established to ensure environment-friendly initiatives while developing agriculture and agro-based industry. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is the first university in Pakistan where the Inter-University Consortium for Climate Change has been established in which more than 80 universities and institutions are affiliated. The Governor of Punjab, Engr. Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman under his patronage realized the usefulness and importance of this consortium and made it a key consortium of universities of Punjab and now the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is leading universities across Punjab for climate change and sustainable environment and survival. Scientists of the Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies are working on the indigenous flora of Cholistan and their survival to make the region safe and sustainable. The university has promoted renewable energy through a 2.5 MW solar plant, which will soon be expanded to 1 MW. A center was set up with the support of South Punjab Secretariat to observe and monitor Air Quality Index of Bahawalpur. Cooperation with the Punjab government is ongoing on the project of special agro-economic zone in Cholistan through rain increase system, which will bring 6 million hectares of land under cultivation and increase the agricultural economy of the country by 10 billion dollars annually. Similarly, the university has introduced a compulsory course in Agriculture and Environment at BS level to make students aware of this important challenge and research has been encouraged at MS and PhD level. He said that the temperature of Bahawalpur has increased by 1 degree centigrade in the last 40 years and it is expected to increase by another 1 degree centigrade, which has affected the climate cycle and the production of crops is also likely to be affected. Vice-Chancellor University of Sahiwal Prof. Dr. Javed Akhtar said in his speech that the problem of climate change has created food security, drought and other terrible problems. 3.3 billion people of the world have been affected by it and 350 billion dollars in economic losses have been caused. Pakistan is one of the most affected by climate change in Asia. To deal with this challenge, we have to minimize gas emissions and plant more trees. Vice-Chancellor Sindh Madrasah-ut-Islam Karachi Prof. Dr. Mujibuddin Sehrai Memon on organizing an international conference on this important topic, congratulations  to Vice-Chancellor Eng. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob. He said that developed countries are responsible for climate change and they should compensate the loss of developing countries. Vice-Chancellor University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi said that the recent monsoon rains have caused huge loss of lives and property to Pakistan and a loss of 30 billion dollars. Agriculture is the main component of our economy which is most affected by climate change. Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil thanked Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob for organizing the conference and appreciated the efforts of his team. Chairman Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi, also thanked the support of Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Mahboob to hold the conference on this important topic.

انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگر و انڈسٹری اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ، فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ، اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے زیر اہتمام پہلی بین الاقوامی کانفرنس برائے کلائمیٹ چینج کا آغاز ہو گیا۔ افتتاحی سیشن میں وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یو نیورسٹی بہاول پور انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب، وائس چانسلر یونیورسٹی آف ساہیوال پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جاوید اختر، وائس چانسلر سند ھ مدرستہ السلام کراچی پروفیسر ڈاکٹر مجیب الدین صحرائی میمن، وائس چانسلر یونیورسٹی آف آزاد جموں وکشمیر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد کلیم عباسی، ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر معظم جمیل اور چیئرمین انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ایگر و انڈسٹری اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ ڈاکٹر غلام حسن عباسی نے خطاب کیا۔ انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ کلائمیٹ چینج ایک عالمی مسئلہ ہے اور اس سے نمٹنے کے اور اس کے دیر پا حل کے لیے اسے اپنی اقدار کا حصہ بنانا ہو گا۔ کلائمیٹ چینج اصل میں انسانی بقاء کا مسئلہ ہے اور اس کے حل کے لیے انفرادی اور اجتماعی کوششوں کی ضرورت ہے۔ وزیراعظم پاکستان میاں محمد شہباز شریف نے حالیہ انٹرنیشنل کانفرنس میں واشگاف الفاظ میں ماحولیاتی تبدیلیوں کے مسئلے کو عالمی سطح پر اٹھایا اور کلائمیٹ ڈپلومیسی پر زور دیا تاکہ ترقی یافتہ ممالک ملکر کرہ ارض کے اس مسئلے کو حل کر یں۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پورنے عالمی تناظر میں مقامی مسائل کا حل کے اصول پر اس چیلنج سے نمٹنے کے لیے اپنے گھر سے آغاز کیا ہے۔ تین برس پہلے انہی چیلنجز کو دیکھتے ہوئے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کی نئی بنیادی اقداررواداری، ایمانداری، ماحول دوست، جدیت پسندی، انڈرسٹینڈینگ اور فائدہ مند ہونا ترتیب دی ہیں اور انہیں یونیورسٹی کی پالیسی کا حصہ بنایا گیا۔ گرین کیمپس مہم کے تحت یونیورسٹی کیمپسز کو ماحول دوست بنانا اور پانی، خوراک اور دیگر استعمال ہونے والی ایشیاء کے استعمال کو کم سے کم کرنا اور ضیاع کو روکنا اس مہم کا حصہ ہے اور یونیورسٹی فیکلٹی ممبران کی بڑی ٹیم اس پر عملدرآمد کے لیے کوشاں رہتی ہے۔ انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایگرو انڈسٹری اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ قائم کیا گیا ہے تاکہ زراعت اور زراعت پر مبنی صنعت کو ترقی دیتے ہوئے ماحول دوست اقدامات کو یقینی بنایا جائے۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور پاکستان کی پہلی یونیورسٹی ہے جہاں انٹر یونیورسٹی کنسورشیم برائے کلائمیٹ چینج کا قیام عمل میں آیا جس میں 80 سے زائد جامعات اور ادارے منسلک ہیں۔ گورنر پنجاب انجینئر محمد بلیغ الرحمن نے اپنی سرپرستی میں اس کنسورشیم کی افادیت اور اہمیت کو محسوس کرتے ہوئے پنجاب کی جامعات کا کلیدی کنسورشیم بنا دیا اور اب اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں اور پائیدار ماحول اور بقاء کے لیے پنجاب بھر میں جامعات کی رہنمائی کر رہی ہے۔ چولستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈیزٹ سٹڈیز کے سائنسدان چولستان کی مقامی نباتات اور ان کی بقاء کے لیے کوشاں ہیں تاکہ اس خطے کو محفوظ اور پائیدار بنایا جائے۔ یونیورسٹی میں 2.5 میگا واٹ کے سولر پلانٹ کے ذریعے قابل تجدید توانائی کو فروغ دیا گیا ہے جس میں جلد ہی 1 میگا واٹ کا اضافہ کیا جائے گا۔ بہاول پور کے ایئر کوالٹی انڈکس کے مشاہدے اور نگرانی کے لیے ساؤتھ پنجاب سیکریٹریٹ کے تعاون سے ایک سنٹر قائم کیا گیا۔ چولستان میں بارشوں میں اضافے کے نظام کے ذریعے خصوصی ایگر واکنامک زون کے منصوبے پر حکومت پنجاب کے ساتھ کا م جاری ہے جس سے 6 ملین ایکٹر رقبہ زیر کاشت آئے گا اور ملک کی زرعی معیشت میں 10 ارب ڈالر سالانہ کا اضافہ ہو گا۔ اسی طرح یونیورسٹی میں بی ایس سطح پر ایگریکلچر اینڈ اینوئرمنٹ کا لازمی کورس متعارف کرایا گیا ہے تاکہ طلباء وطالبات کو اس اہم چیلنج سے آگاہ کیا جا سکے اور ایم ایس اور پی ایچ ڈی سطح پر تحقیق کی حوصلہ افزائی کی گئی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ بہاول پور کا درجہ حرارت گزشتہ 40سالوں میں 1ڈگری سینٹی گریڈبڑھا ہے اور اس میں مزید 1سینٹی گریڈکا اضافہ متوقع ہے جس سے موسمیاتی سرکل متاثر ہو ا ہے اور فصلوں کی پیداوار بھی متاثر ہونے کا خدشہ ہے۔ وائس چانسلر یونیورسٹی آف ساہیوال پروفیسر ڈاکٹر جاوید اخترنے خطاب میں کہا کہ کلائمیٹ چینج کے مسئلے سے فوڈ سیکورٹی، خشک سالی اور دیگر خوفناک مسائل پیدا ہوئے ہیں۔ دنیا کی 3.3بلین آبادی اس سے متاثر ہوئی ہے اور 350بلین ڈالر معاشی نقصان ہو اہے۔ پاکستان ماحولیاتی تبدیلیوں میں ایشیاء میں سب سے زیادہ متاثر ہوا ہے۔ اس چیلنج سے نمٹنے کے لیے ہمیں گیسوں اخراج کم سے کم اورزیادہ سے زیادہ درختوں کی شجر کاری کرنا ہو گی۔وائس چانسلر سند ھ مدرستہ السلام کراچی پروفیسر ڈاکٹر مجیب الدین صحرائی میمن نے اس اہم موضوع پر بین الاقوامی کانفرنس کے انعقاد پر وائس چانسلر انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب کو مبارکباد دی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ترقی یافتہ ممالک موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے ذمے دار ہیں اور انہیں ترقی پذیر ممالک کے اس نقصا ن کا ازالہ کرنا چاہیے۔ وائس چانسلر یونیورسٹی آف آزاد جموں وکشمیر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد کلیم عباسی نے کہا کہ حالیہ مون سون کی بارشوں نے پاکستان کو بڑے جانی و مالی نقصان سے دوچار کیا اور 30 ارب ڈالر کا نقصان ہوا۔ زراعت ہماری معیشت کا اہم جزو ہے جو ماحولیاتی تبدیلیوں کی وجہ سے سب سے زیادہ متاثر ہو رہا ہے۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر معظم جمیل نے کانفرنس کے انعقاد پر وائس چانسلر انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور اپنی ٹیم کی کاوشوں کو سراہا۔ چیئرمین انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ایگر و انڈسٹری اینڈ اینوائرمنٹ ڈاکٹر غلام حسن عباسی نے اس اہم موضوع پر کانفرنس کا انعقاد انتہائی خوش آئند ہے اور اس کے لیے وائس چانسلر کی سرپرستی پر شکرگزار ہیں۔
