The Department of Information Management, in collaboration with the Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Library at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur celebrated World Book and Copyright Day with a series of engaging events aimed at promoting the joy of reading, the importance of books, and the role of knowledge in sustainable development. Each year on April 23, UNESCO’s World Book and Copyright Day brings together millions of readers, authors, and educators worldwide to celebrate books as timeless vessels of knowledge, cultural exchange, and intellectual growth. This year, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur joined the global celebration with an awareness walk followed by an insightful webinar on knowledge economy for Sustainable Development. The event commenced with a vibrant awareness walk from the university’s main auditorium, where students, faculty members, librarians, and book enthusiasts gathered to express their love for reading. Participants carried banners and placards highlighting the significance of books as bridges between generations, cultures, and ideas. The walk symbolized the university’s commitment to fostering a reading culture and intellectual curiosity among its students and the broader community. Following the walk, a thought provoking webinar was held, featuring distinguished national and international scholars who shared their expertise on the evolving role of knowledge in today’s digital and sustainable economy. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti Dean Faculty of Social Sciences delivered the welcome address, highlighting the transformative power of books and reading. Books are not just repositories of knowledge, they are catalysts for social change, innovation, and sustainable development, she stated. In an era of rapid technological advancements, we must ensure that the essence of reading and critical thinking remains at the heart of education. Today’s celebration is a reminder that books connect us across time and space, fostering empathy, creativity, and lifelong learning. She highlighted the importance of knowledge economy and emphasized that the knowledge economy where growth is driven by intellectual capital rather than traditional industries plays a pivotal role in sustainable development. By investing in education, digital infrastructure, and open knowledge systems, nations can enhance productivity, foster innovation, and reduce inequalities. The webinar reinforced that books, research, and intellectual discourse are not just academic pursuits but essential engines of economic transformation, ensuring that societies adapt and thrive in an increasingly information-driven world. Prof. Dr. Shahid Soroya Director General, Pakistan Institute of Education, Islamabad delivered a keynote address on educational policies, knowledge sharing, and the sustainable future. He emphasized the critical role of policy frameworks in fostering literacy, digital learning, and equitable access to knowledge. Highlighting Pakistan’s educational challenges and opportunities, he stressed the need for innovative strategies to integrate traditional and digital learning ecosystems. He stated that to achieve sustainable development, we must invest in policies that promote lifelong learning, research accessibility, and intellectual empowerment for all. Prof. Dr. Naresh Agarwal Professor, Simmons University, USA captivated the audience with his thought provoking presentation, Unlocking Knowledge in the Process of Writing Books. Drawing from his extensive research in information science and knowledge management, he explored how authorship transforms individual insights into global intellectual capital. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Salman Bin Naeem, Chairman of the Department of Information Management, who emphasized the critical role of books and digital knowledge resources in shaping an informed society. He thanked the speakers, participants, and organizers for their enthusiastic engagement and reiterated the university’s dedication to advancing literacy, research, and intellectual discourse. The celebration of World Book and Copyright Day at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur underscored the university’s mission to promote literacy, research, and intellectual dialogue as pillars of national and global development. By bringing together scholars, students, and book lovers, the event reinforced the enduring value of books in shaping a knowledgeable and progressive society.

بہاولپور (پ ر) شعبہ انفارمیشن مینجمنٹ اور سر صادق محمد خان لائبریری اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام گزشتہ روز کتاب اور کاپی رائٹ کا عالمی دن منایا گیا۔ جس کا مقصد پڑھنے کی خوشی، کتابوں کی اہمیت اور پائیدار ترقی میں علم کے کردار کو فروغ دینا ہے۔ ہر سال 23 اپریل کو یونیسکو عالمی یوم کتاب اور کاپی رائٹ دنیا بھر میں لاکھوں قارئین، مصنفین اور ماہرین تعلیم کو اکٹھا کرتا ہے تاکہ کتابوں کا علم، ثقافتی تبادلے اور فکری ترقی کے طور پر منایا جاسکے۔ اس سال اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور نے ایک آگاہی واک کے ساتھ عالمی جشن میں شمولیت اختیار کی۔ تقریب کا آغاز یونیورسٹی کے مرکزی آڈیٹوریم سے ایک متحرک آگاہی واک سے ہوا، جہاں طلباء، فیکلٹی ممبران، لائبریرین، اور کتاب کے شوقین افراد جمع ہوئے۔ شرکاء نے بینرز اور پلے کارڈز اٹھا رکھے تھے جن پر کتابوں کی اہمیت، ثقافتوں اور نظریات کے درمیان پل کے طور پر اہمیت کو اجاگر کیا گیا تھا۔ یہ واک یونیورسٹی کے طلباء اور وسیع تر کمیونٹی میں پڑھنے کے کلچر اور فکری تجسس کو فروغ دینے کے عزم کی علامت تھی۔ بعدازاں، ویبنار کا انعقاد کیا گیا، جس میں ممتاز قومی اور بین الاقوامی اسکالرز نے شرکت کی جنہوں نے آج کی ڈیجیٹل اور پائیدار معیشت میں علم کے ابھرتے ہوئے کردار پر اپنی مہارت کا اشتراک کیا۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی نے خطبہ استقبالیہ پیش کیا، کتابوں اور پڑھنے کی تبدیلی کی طاقت پر روشنی ڈالی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کتابیں صرف علم کا ذخیرہ نہیں ہیں، وہ سماجی تبدیلی، اختراعات اور پائیدار ترقی کے لیے اتپریرک ہیں۔ تیز رفتار تکنیکی ترقی کے دور میں، ہمیں اس بات کو یقینی بنانا چاہیے کہ پڑھنے اور تنقیدی سوچ کا جوہر تعلیم کے مرکز میں رہے۔ انہوں نے علمی معیشت کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کیا اور اس بات پر زور دیا کہ علمی معیشت جہاں ترقی روایتی صنعتوں کے بجائے دانشورانہ سرمائے سے ہوتی ہے پائیدار ترقی میں اہم کردار ادا کرتی ہے۔ تعلیم، ڈیجیٹل انفراسٹرکچر، اور کھلے علم کے نظام میں سرمایہ کاری کرکے، قومیں پیداواری صلاحیت کو بڑھا سکتی ہیں، جدت کو فروغ دے سکتی ہیں اور عدم مساوات کو کم کر سکتی ہیں۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شاہد سوریا ڈائریکٹر جنرل، پاکستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ایجوکیشن اسلام آباد نے تعلیمی پالیسیوں، نالج شیئرنگ، اور پائیدار مستقبل پر کلیدی خطاب کیا۔ انہوں نے خواندگی کو فروغ دینے، ڈیجیٹل سیکھنے اور علم تک مساوی رسائی میں پالیسی فریم ورک کے اہم کردار پر زور دیا۔ پاکستان کے تعلیمی چیلنجوں اور مواقع پر روشنی ڈالتے ہوئے، انہوں نے روایتی اور ڈیجیٹل سیکھنے کے ماحولیاتی نظام کو مربوط کرنے کے لیے جدید حکمت عملیوں کی ضرورت پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پائیدار ترقی کے حصول کے لیے ہمیں ایسی پالیسیوں میں سرمایہ کاری کرنی چاہیے جو زندگی بھر سیکھنے، تحقیق تک رسائی، اور سب کے لیے فکری بااختیار بنانے کو فروغ دیں۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر نریش اگروال پروفیسر، سیمنز یونیورسٹی، امریکہ نے اپنی فکر انگیز گفتگو سے سامعین کو مسحور کردیا، کتابیں لکھنے کے عمل میں علم کو کھولنا۔ انفارمیشن سائنس اور نالج مینجمنٹ میں اپنی وسیع تحقیق سے حاصل کرتے ہوئے، انہوں نے دریافت کیا کہ کس طرح تصنیف انفرادی بصیرت کو عالمی فکری سرمائے میں تبدیل کرتی ہے۔ سیشن کی نظامت شعبہ انفارمیشن مینجمنٹ کے چیئرمین پروفیسر ڈاکٹر سلمان بن نعیم نے کی، جنہوں نے باخبر معاشرے کی تشکیل میں کتابوں اور ڈیجیٹل علمی وسائل کے اہم کردار پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے مقررین، شرکاء اور منتظمین کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور خواندگی، تحقیق اور فکری گفتگو کو آگے بڑھانے کے لیے یونیورسٹی کے عزم کا اعادہ کیا۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور میں ورلڈ بک اینڈ کاپی رائٹ ڈے کی تقریب نے قومی اور عالمی ترقی کے ستونوں کے طور پر خواندگی، تحقیق اور فکری مکالمے کو فروغ دینے کے یونیورسٹی کے مشن کو اجاگر کیا۔ اسکالرز، طلباء اور کتاب سے محبت کرنے والوں کو اکٹھا کرکے، اس تقریب نے ایک علمی اور ترقی پسند معاشرے کی تشکیل میں کتابوں کی پائیدار قدر کو تقویت دی۔
