The Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized an event on the topic of Global Health and its Colonial Roots

The Department of Anthropology, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, organized an event on the topic of Global Health and its Colonial Roots. Dr. Ayaz Qureshi, Associate Professor, University of Edinburgh, UK, delivered a special lecture at the event. Dr. Ayaz Qureshi, in his analysis, said that colonial powers in Asia and Africa used diseases and their treatments as tools of control. He also highlighted the significant progress made in international health policies after the end of colonial rule in the subcontinent. Dr. Farooq Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Anthropology, discussed the historical and contemporary implications of the colonial legacy of global health. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Chairman, Department of Psychology, stressed the importance of decolonization and called for the promotion of national languages like Urdu to break away from colonial influences. Prof. Dr. Samar Fahad from the Psychology Department and Naeem Asim from the Public Health Department also spoke. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti appreciated Dr. Ayaz Qureshi for his unique and detailed lecture. She also emphasized the importance of future collaboration with Dr. Qureshi to further explore topics related to medical anthropology.

بہاولپور (پ ر) شعبہ بشریات اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام عالمی صحت اور اس کی نو آبادیاتی جڑوں کے موضوع پر تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔ تقریب میں یونیورسٹی آف ایڈنبرا، برطانیہ کے ایسوسی ایٹ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ایاز قریشی نے خصوصی لیکچر دیا۔ ڈاکٹر ایاز قریشی نے اپنے تجزیے میں کہا کہ ایشیا اور افریقہ میں نوآبادیاتی طاقتوں نے بیماریوں اور ان کے علاج کو کنٹرول کے آلات کے طور پر استعمال کیا۔ انہوں نے برصغیر میں نوآبادیاتی حکومت کے خاتمے کے بعد بین الاقوامی صحت کی پالیسیوں میں ہونے والی نمایاں پیش رفت کو بھی اجاگر کیا۔ ڈاکٹر فاروق احمد، چیئرمین شعبہ بشریات نے عالمی صحت کی نو آبادیاتی میراث کے تاریخی اور عصری مضمرات پر گفتگو کی۔ چیئرمین شعبہ نفسیات پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد سلیم نے ڈی کالونائزیشن کی اہمیت پر زور دیا اور نوآبادیاتی اثرات سے الگ ہونے کے لیے اردو جیسی قومی زبانوں کے فروغ پر زور دیا۔ سائیکالوجی ڈیپارٹمنٹ سے پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ثمر فہد اور پبلک ہیلتھ ڈیپارٹمنٹ سے نعیم عاصم نے بھی خطاب کیا۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی نے ڈاکٹر ایاز قریشی کو ان کے منفرد اور تفصیلی لیکچر پر سراہا۔ انہوں نے طبی بشریات سے متعلقہ موضوعات کو مزید دریافت کرنے کے لیے ڈاکٹر قریشی کے ساتھ مستقبل میں تعاون کی اہمیت پر بھی زور دیا۔
