The two-day International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities organized by the Department of Pakistan Studies, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has concluded. Delegates from USA, Germany, UK, Italy, Malaysia and Pakistan participated in the conference. The concluding session was chaired by Prof. Hameed Raza Siddiqui, Former Principal, Government Emerson College, Multan. Prof. Dr. Aftab Hussain Gillani Dean Faculty of Law and Chairman Department of Pakistan Studies and Focal Person of the Conference thanked the Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob for the special patronage in organizing the conference and appreciated the presence of local and foreign delegates. Chairman Department of History Punjab University Lahore Prof. Dr. Mehboob Hussain presented the recommendations of the conference. The recommendations say that social scientists, historians and relevant stakeholders should be consulted for policy making on social development, especially in the field of education. Various advisory groups should be formed for the development of social sciences in the country. Social experts must be consulted to resolve important national issues such as water scarcity and energy crisis. Effectively highlight our great cultural heritage and social traditions globally. Relevant experts should be included in the relevant think tank. The Federal and Provincial Higher Education Commissions should take special measures for the development of social sciences and related research projects and scholarships. Sociologists renewed their commitment to play their full role in tackling various issues and challenges in the society. Meanwhile, two sessions were held on the second day of the conference. The first session was on the topic of extremism which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Iqbal Akhtar. The second session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Aslam Syed in which Sufi traditions in South Asia were discussed. 54 articles were presented in the conference.

شعبہ مطالعہ پاکستان اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زیر اہتمام سوشل سائنسز اینڈ ہومنیٹیز کے عنوان پر دو روزہ انٹرنیشنل کانفرنس اختتام پذیر ہو گئی۔کانفرنس میں امریکہ، جرمنی، برطانیہ، اٹلی، ملائیشیا اور پاکستان سے مندوبین شریک ہوئے۔اختتامی اجلاس کی صدارت سابق پرنسپل گورنمنٹ ایمرسن کالج ملتان پروفیسر حمید رضا صدیقی نے کی۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر آفتاب حسین گیلانی ڈین فیکلٹی آف لاء اور چیئر مین شعبہ مطالعہ پاکستان اور کانفرنس کے فوکل پرسن نے کانفرنس کے انعقاد میں خصوصی سرپرستی پر وائس چانسلر انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور ملکی وغیرملکی مندوبین کی آمد کو سراہا۔ چیئر مین شعبہ تاریخ پنجاب یونیورسٹی لاہور پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محبوب حسین نے کانفرنس کی سفارشات پیش کیں۔ سفارشات میں کہا گیا ہے کہ سماجی ترقی خاص طور پر شعبہ تعلیم میں پالیسی سازی کے لیے سماجی سائنسدانوں، تاریخ دانوں اور متعلقہ سٹیک ہولڈرز سے مشاورت کی جائے۔ ملک میں سماجی علوم کی ترقی کے لیے مختلف مشاورتی گروپ تشکیل دئیے جائیں۔ اہم قومی مسائل مثلاً آبی وسائل کی کمی اور توانائی کے بحران جیسے معاملات کے حل کے لئے سماجی ماہرین سے ضرور رائے لی جائے۔ عالمی سطح پر ہمارے عظیم تہذیبی،ثقافتی ورثے اور سماجی روایات کو موثر طریقے سے اُجاگر کیا جائے۔ ان سے متعلقہ تھنک ٹینک میں متعلقہ ماہرین کو شامل کیا جائے۔ وفاقی اور صوبائی ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن سماجی علوم کی ترقی کے لیے اور ان سے متعلقہ تحقیقی منصوبوں اور سکالرشپس کے لئے خصوصی اقدامات کریں۔ سماجی ماہرین نے اس عہد کی تجدید کی کہ وہ سماج میں موجود مختلف مسائل اور چیلنجز سے نمٹنے کے لئے اپنابھرپور کردار ادا کریں گے۔دریں اثناء کانفرنس کے دوسرے روز دو سیشن منعقد ہوئے۔ پہلا سیشن انتہا پسندی کے موضوع پر تھا جس کی صدارت پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اقبال اختر نے کی۔ دوسرا سیشن پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اسلم سید کی زیر صدارت منعقد ہوا جس میں جنوبی ایشیا ء میں صوفی روایات پر تبادلہ خیال کیا گیا۔ کانفرنس میں 54مقالات پیش کئے گئے۔
