World Book and Copy Day was celebrated at IUB on 23rd April 2023

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has the tradition to observe World Book Day & Copyright Day on 23rd April every year. On this day, UNESCO recognizes the various stakeholders that make up the book sector – authors, publishers, booksellers, and libraries & information centers and picked Indigenous Languages as the theme. In 2023, the theme of World Book and Copyright Day is to link the power of literature and storytelling with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-32). Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur especially emphasized on the role of academic institutions and libraries and information centers at all levels for promoting, dissemination and preservation of indigenous knowledge and literature. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur organizes a mega international Bahawalpur Literary and Cultural Festivals every year to promote indigenous literature, languages and culture. Many other activities are arranged throughout the year for knowledge creation, sharing, dissemination and managing knowledge systems. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to encourage and promote reading and publishing, as well as provide awareness and advance the protection of intellectual property through copyright. She urged that reading culture should be promoted as it helps in the personality development, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills among students and all readers. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha, Chairman, Department of Social Work, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Chairman Department of Applied Psychology, Dr. Abid Rasheed Gill, Head of the Department of Economics, Dr. Samar Fahad Director Enabling Center, faculty members and large number of students participated.

وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹرا طہر محبوب نے کہا ہے کہ کتابیں ماضی اور مستقبل کو جوڑنے کا بہت اہم ذریعہ ہیں اور کتابوں کی بدولت نسلیں اور ثقافتیں آپس میں منسلک ہوتی ہیں۔ کتابیں ہی دراصل ہمارے علم میں اضافے کا ذریعہ ہیں۔ وائس چانسلر نے ان خیالات کا اظہار ورلڈ بک اور کاپی رائٹ کے دن کے موقع پر شعبہ لائبریر ی اینڈ انفارمیشن سائنس کی جانب سے منعقد کی گئی خصوصی واک کے شرکاء سے خطاب میں کیا۔ اس موقع پر ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنس پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی نے اس دن کی اہمیت سے آگاہ کیا اور شرکاء پر زور دیا کہ وہ معاشرے کی ترقی اور تخلیقی صلاحیتوں کو اجاگرکرنے کے لیے کتاب بینی کے رجحان کی حوصلہ افزائی کریں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس سلسلے میں والدین کا کردار بھی بہت اہم ہے جو اپنے بچوں میں کتاب بینی کی عادت ڈالیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس سال یونیسکو نے ورلڈ بک اور کاپی رائٹ ڈے کا تھیم مقامی زبانیں مقرر کیا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس دن عالمی سطح پر کتابوں سے وابستہ مصنفین، ناشرین، کتب فروخت کرنے والوں اور لائبریریوں اور معلوماتی مراکز کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کیا جاتا ہے۔ اس موقع پر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ بھٹی ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز،پروفیسر ڈاکٹر آصف نوید رانجھا چیئرمین شعبہ سوشل ورک، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد سلیم چیئرمین شعبہ اپلائیڈ سائیکالوجی، ڈاکٹر عابد رشید گل سربراہ شعبہ اکنامکس، ڈاکٹر ثمر فہدڈائریکٹر  انیبلنگ سنٹر، فیکلٹی ممبرز اور طلباء و طالبات کی کثیر تعداد شریک تھی۔
