World Soil Day 2024 ceremony organized at the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Islamia University of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur (PR) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, has said that the research activities conducted at the university should be linked to national objectives and development. The fruits of these research activities should increase the country's economic development and lead to the prosperity of the common man. The Vice Chancellor expressed this while addressing the teachers and students at the World Soil Day ceremony at the Department of Soil Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment. He said that the agricultural scientists of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are engaged in research activities of great importance for the country's agriculture. In this regard, direct contact with the farming community is very important so that practical solutions to agricultural problems are presented. The Vice Chancellor congratulated the teachers, researchers and students on World Soil Day and appreciated the various activities organized on the occasion of this important day. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Turabi said that soil is a basic component of life on earth, which consists of minerals, organic matter and varying amounts of air. It serves as a vital medium for plant growth, provides a habitat for countless insects and microorganisms, and acts as a filtration system for surface water by retaining gases in the atmosphere. Moreover, soil is the basis of four essential elements of life: food, clothing, shelter, and medicine. Therefore, soil conservation is essential to sustain life. World Soil Day is observed on December 5 every year to raise awareness about the challenges of soil conservation and soil degradation. Prof. Dr. Maqshoof Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Soil Science, said that the idea of celebrating World Soil Day originated in 2002 when the International Union of Soil Sciences proposed to celebrate this day annually. In December 2013, the United Nations General Assembly declared December 5 as World Soil Day. The Department of Soil Science, Institute of Soil and Water Resources (ISWR), Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, is providing quality education and research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This year’s global theme “Soil Care: Measurement, Monitoring, Management” emphasizes the importance of accurate soil data and sustainable soil management to ensure sustainable soil management. Dr. Muhammad Fakhar-uz-Zaman Akhtar, Chairman, Water Resources Department, said that this day is celebrated to draw attention to healthy soil. On this occasion, a cake was cut to mark the day and students participated in a special awareness walk highlighting the importance of soil science with the help of special models and posters.

بہاولپور (پ ر) پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد کامران وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور نے کہا ہے کہ جامعہ میں ہونے والی تحقیقی سرگرمیاں قومی مقاصد اور ترقی سے جڑی ہونی چاہئیں۔ ان تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کے ثمرات سے ملکی معاشی ترقی میں اضافہ ہو اور عام آدمی کی خوشحالی کا باعث بنیں۔ وائس چانسلر نے اس بات کا اظہار شعبہ سوائل سائنس انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف سوائل اینڈ واٹر ریسورسز فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ انوائرمنٹ میں ورلڈ سوائل ڈے کی تقریب میں اساتذہ اور طلباء و طالبات سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے زرعی سائنسدان ملکی زراعت کے لیے بہت اہمیت کی حامل تحقیقی سرگرمیوں میں مصروف عمل ہیں۔ اس سلسلے میں کسان کمیونٹی سے براہ راست رابطہ بہت ضروری ہے تاکہ زرعی مسائل کا عملی حل پیش کیا جائے۔ وائس چانسلر نے ورلڈ سوائل ڈے پر اساتذہ، محققین اور طلباءوطالبات کو مبارکباد دی اور اس اہم دن کی مناسبت سے منعقد کی گئی مختلف سرگرمیوں کو سراہا۔ ڈین فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ انوائرمنٹ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر تنویر حسین ترابی نے کہا کہ مٹی زمین پر زندگی کا ایک بنیادی جزو ہے، جو معدنیات، نامیاتی مادے اور ہوا کی مختلف مقداروں پر مشتمل ہے۔ یہ پودوں کی نشوونما کے لیے ایک اہم ذریعہ کے طور پر کام کرتا ہے، لاتعداد کیڑوں اور مائکروجنزموں کے لیے ایک مسکن فراہم کرتا ہے، اور فضا میں گیسوں کو برقرار رکھتے ہوئے سطحی پانی کے لیے فلٹریشن سسٹم کے طور پر کام کرتا ہے۔ مزید یہ کہ مٹی زندگی کے چار ضروری عناصر کی بنیاد ہے، خوراک، لباس، رہائش اور دوا۔ اس لیے زندگی کو برقرار رکھنے کے لیے مٹی کا تحفظ ضروری ہے۔ مٹی کے تحفظ اور مٹی کے انحطاط کے چیلنجز کے بارے میں بیداری پیدا کرنے کے لیے ہر سال 5 دسمبر کو مٹی کا عالمی دن منایا جاتا ہے۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر مقشوف احمد چیئرمین شعبہ سوائل سائنس نے کہا کہ مٹی کا عالمی دن منانے کا خیال 2002 میں اس وقت شروع ہوا جب بین الاقوامی یونین آف سوائل سائنسز نے اس دن کو سالانہ منانے کی تجویز پیش کی۔ دسمبر 2013 میں، اقوام متحدہ کی جنرل اسمبلی نے 5 دسمبر کو مٹی کا عالمی دن قرار دیا۔ شعبہ سوائل سائنس انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف سوائل اینڈ واٹر ریسورسز (ISWR) فیکلٹی آف ایگریکلچر اینڈ انوائرمنٹ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور انڈر گریجویٹ اور پوسٹ گریجویٹ سطحوں پر معیاری تعلیم اور تحقیق فراہم کررہا ہے۔ اس سال کا عالمی تھیم''مٹی کی دیکھ بھال، پیمائش، نگرانی، انتظام'' کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے مٹی کے درست اعداد و شمار اور پائیدار مٹی کے انتظام کی اہمیت پر زور دیا گیا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر محمد فخرالزمان اختر چیئرمین شعبہ واٹر ریسورسز نے کہا کہ یہ دن صحت مند مٹی کی طرف توجہ مبذول کرانے کے لیے منایا جاتا ہے۔ اس موقع پر اس دن کی مناسبت سے کیک کاٹا گیا اور طلباء وطالبات نے خصوصی ماڈلز اور پوسٹرز کی مدد سے سوائل سائنس کی اہمیت اجاگر کی خصوصی آگاہی واک میں شرکت کی۔
