WVC Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob visited Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies and reviewed the research activities

Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur visited Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies and reviewed the research activities. On this occasion, he said that our agricultural scientists are performing national service by connecting research activities with national priorities. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur's research projects, especially agricultural research, are based on national food security, higher agricultural production and revival of the agricultural economy. Pakistan is currently facing a huge challenge of food security. The researchers and scientists of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur have accepted this challenge and achieved encouraging results. The aim of these projects is to promote sustainable agriculture in the desert by researching crops and fruiting plants that have high productivity in the cholistan desert. Similarly, research on improving the method of irrigation of crops through drip irrigation is also included. On this occasion, Director Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies Dr. Muhammad Abdullah informed the Vice-Chancellor about the research activities of various faculty members and researchers. Dr. Muhammad Zahid Ehsan apprised about the ongoing research projects with the support of Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, which are related to sustainable desert agriculture and cost more than 14 million rupees. These pilot projects will be spread over 6.7 million acres of Cholistan to ensure national agricultural self-sufficiency. The Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated wheat harvesting in the experimental area on this occasion.

انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے چولستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈیزرٹ سٹڈیز کا دورہ کیا اور تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کا جائزہ لیا۔ اس موقع پر انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمارے زرعی سائنسدان تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کو ملکی ترجیحات سے جوڑ کر قومی خدمت سرانجام دے رہے ہیں ۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے تحقیقی منصوبے خصوصاً زرعی تحقیق نیشنل فوڈسیکورٹی، زیادہ زرعی پیداوار اور زرعی معیشت کی بحالی پر مبنی ہے۔ پاکستان کو اس وقت فوڈ سیکورٹی کا بہت بڑا چیلنج درپیش ہے۔ دوسری طرف ہماری معیشت زراعت پر مبنی ہے جس کی بحالی کی ذمہ داری زرعی سائنسدانوں پر عائد ہوتی ہے۔ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے محققین اور سائنسدانوں نے اس چیلنج کو قبول کرتے ہوئے حوصلہ افزاء نتائج حاصل کیے ہیں۔ ان منصوبوں کا مقصد صحرا میں پائیدار زراعت کو فروغ دینا ہے تاکہ ایسی فصلوں اور پھلدار پودوں پر تحقیقی کی جائے جو صحرائے چولستان میں زیادہ پیداوار کے حامل ہیں۔ اِسی طرح ڈرپ اریگیشن کے ذریعے فصلوں کی آبیاری کے طریقہ کار کو بہتر بنانے کی تحقیق بھی شامل ہے۔ اس موقع پر ڈائریکٹر چولستان انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف ڈیزرٹ سٹڈیز  ڈاکٹر محمد عبداللہ نے وائس چانسلر کو فیلڈ ایریا کے دورے پر مختلف فیکلٹی ممبران اور محققین کی تحقیقی سرگرمیوں سے آگاہ کیا۔ ڈاکٹر محمد زاہد احسان نے ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن اور پاکستان زرعی تحقیقاتی کونسل کی معاونت سے جاری تحقیقی منصوبوں سے متعلق آگاہ کیا جو دیرپا صحرائی زراعت سے متعلق ہیں اور 14ملین روپے سے زائد لاگت کے حامل ہیں۔ ان میں جرمنی سے درآمد شدہ فصل لُپن جو لائیو سٹاک اور ہیومین دونوں کے لئے مفید ہے، پر تحقیقی کام جاری ہے۔ ان تجرباتی منصوبوں کا دائرہ چولستان کے 6.7 ملین ایکڑ رقبے پر پھیلایا جائے گا تاکہ قومی زرعی خود کفالت کو یقینی بنایا جا سکے۔  وائس چانسلر نے اس موقع پر تجرباتی ایریا میں گندم کی کٹائی کا بھی افتتاح کیا۔ انہوں نے چولستان کے فلورا اور فانا کے بقاء اور  تحفظ کے لئے  ڈاکٹر محمد عبداللہ کی سربراہی میں زرعی سائنسدانوں کی تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کو سراہا۔
