Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur met with Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH at the Secretariat of COMSTECH in Islamabad. COMSTECH is an abbreviation for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation for the promotion and cooperation of science and technology activities among the OIC member states. Discussion during the meeting focused on explanation of the objectives of COMSTECH by Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary and Pakistan's tremendous scientific potential for contributing to the development of OIC member states. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob briefed Coordinator General COMSTECH on the IUB research activities in domains of environment, agriculture and desert studies. The interdisciplinary research work being done at the IUB's Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies was highlighted. It was mutually agreed that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur could submit a proposal to host a research center on deserts and arid zones agriculture, livestock and ecology for the benefit of OIC member states.

اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور اور اسلامی ممالک کی تنظیم (OIC)کے ذیلی اِدارے کامسٹیک (COMSTECH)نے صحرائے چولستان میں سائنس وٹیکنالوجی کے شعبے میں جدید ترین تحقیقی مرکز کے قیام پر اتفاق کیا ہے۔ انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے آج پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اقبال چوہدری کوآرڈینیٹر جنرل کامسٹیک سے کامسٹیک سیکریٹریٹ اسلام آباد میں ملاقات کی۔اس موقع پرکامسٹیک کے اغراض ومقاصد کے مطابق مسلم دنیا میں سائنس وٹیکنالوجی کے میدان میں پاکستان کے اہم کردار پر تبادلہ خیال کیا گیا۔ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب نے بتایا کہ حال ہی میں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور میں ماحولیات، زراعت کے شعبوں اور صحرائی اور بارانی علاقوں سے متعلق تحقیق کے لیے کثیر الجہتی منصبوں کا آغاز کیا گیا ہے۔ اس بات پر اتفاق رائے پایا گیا کہ دونوں اِدارے صحرا ئے چولستان میں تحقیق کے لیے ایک جدید ترین تحقیقی مرکز قائم کریں گے۔ اس مرکز میں ہونے والی تحقیق سے اسلامی ممالک کی تنظیم کے رکن ممالک کو بھی مستفید کیا جائے گا۔یہ بات قابل ذکر ہے کہ کامسٹیک اسلامی ممالک کی تنظیم (OIC)کی سائنس وٹیکنالوجی کے شعبے میں ترقی کے لیے قائم کی گئی  سٹینڈنگ کمیٹی ہے جو رکن ممالک کے مابین تعاون اور اشتراک کو فروغ دیتی ہے۔
