Profile Summary

My Name is Prof. Dr. Syed Zahid Ali Shah and I was Born and Raised in District Swabi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in North of Pakistan. I am a Professional Veterinarian & Public Health Researcher; I acquired my basic DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) Degree from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore-Pakistan in year 2000. During my bachelor’s degree I developed interest about Therapeutic aspect of Diseases So I enrolled for my MSc (Hons) degree at the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore and got the degree in the Discipline of Clinical Medicine & Surgery in year 2003. I worked at Veterinary Research Institute Peshawar from year 2004 to 2010. Later on, I joined University of Agriculture Peshawar as Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical medicine & Surgery in the year 2010. I was Selected for Chinese Government Scholarship to pursue my PhD studies at China Agricultural University Beijing in 2013. During my Stay at China Agricultural University, I was part of a National Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy Group, where active Research Activities were conducted on Public Health Related Protein Misfolding Neurodegenerative Diseases including Prion, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson's Diseases. I Received my PhD Degree in Veterinary Pathology & Public Health in July 2018. After PhD I joined Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences as Assistant Professor (Pathology) in 2018 and soon I was offered the position of Head of the Department in following year. I recently joined The Islamia University of Bahawalpur in year 2022 as Professor in the discipline of Pathology. I was Awarded National Institute of Health Fellowship Award for Postdoctoral studies in year 2022 by Case Western Reserve University Ohio, USA. I published several research articles in prestigious international journals with high impact factor. I am working as volunteer reviewer in different Prestigious Journals. My areas of interest are related to Neurobiology and Neurotherapeutics of Protein Misfolding Disorders with Special Emphasis on Prion Diseases, Alzheimer’s Disease & Parkinson’s Disease. My Future Goals would be to Delineate the Signalling Pathways to Understand Molecular Mechanisms of Cellular Responses to Toxic Misfolded protein-induced ER stress. Furthermore, I am interested in doing a Mass Scale Survey on Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s Disease Prevalence in Pakistan to know the Actual Burden of these Diseases and the Interaction of these Diseases with Other Major Metabolic Diseases such as Diabetes.
