The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is playing a key role in the conservation of Desert Biodiversity at IUB Biodiversity Park. IUB Biodiversity Park is located near Derawar Fort covering a fenced area of almost 75 acres. It is totally a protected area with least interference to conserve the fauna and flora of Cholistan desert. Desert plants which are becoming endangered are protected in Biodiversity Park, almost 100 plant species have been conserved in it. Even every year seed broadcast activity is conducted to enrich its diversity. Due to protection several species of Birds, Mammals and Reptiles has become resident in Biodiversity Park. Now it is a best Natural laboratory for student, researchers, and faculty members from IUB as well as from other Institutes. This Biodiversity Park is fulfilling the research demands of multiple departments i.e., Forestry, Farmacy, Botany, Zoology, Veterinary and others. The Directorate of IUB Biodiversity Park, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Pakistan is playing a great role by fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) No. 15 Life on Land. The International Day for Biological Diversity (or World Biodiversity Day) is a United Nations–sanctioned international day for the promotion of biodiversity issues and it held on May 22 every year. On the vision of worthy Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, an improvement plan of IUB Biodiversity Park is under process to equip it with more research facilities as well as with more focused on Desert conservation.
