GCP Objectives

A sustainable university campus has a clear vision, guidelines, targets, and commitment to managing its environmental issues. It should have an organizational structure with the necessary resources to achieve sustainability targets. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan is one of the largest public universities with more than 37,000 students and a vast area. Under the current Vice-Chancellor (VC) regime, the University has started many eco-friendly development projects and is in an expansionary mode. The Current VC has successfully identified the need for sustainable campus development and has started a few projects for water management and green energy with the help of the Punjab Government and other funding agencies, including the photovoltaic energy generation project. However, a centralized integrated environmental management approach is lacking to tackle diverse environmental issues at the campus.
