The first meeting of the Green Campus Project lead team was held today, March 05, 2021, at 2:00 pm. The Green Campus Project for IUB was approved by the Syndicate in its 75^th meeting, held on January 02, 2021, vide item no. 7.

The project aims at developing an integrated environmental approach towards addressing the environmental concerns of the University in line with the concept of sustainable development. This aims to reduce electricity consumption, increase the share of renewable sources in electricity generated, and/or reduce consumption of natural gas per head, promote the use of energy-efficient appliances, increase the share of recycled waste, reduce paper usage per head, increase the digital footprint, promote waste management with sustainability SOPs, reduce the use of plastic bottles and bags, promote the initiation of Green Infrastructure, minimize the use of petrol/diesel per head, develop sustainable curriculum, promote the research-oriented environment and create awareness about environmental and sustainability concerns.

The minutes of the meeting are as follows:

• All the project team members were introduced to each other and the team was briefed about project goals by the Coordinator Dr Abid Rashid Gill.

• A timeline for the preparation of the 1^st Sustainability report of IUB was established and team heads were advised to prepare the baseline estimates and share them with the coordinator by March 22, 2021.

• As suggested by Mr Aurangzeb (nominee of Director IT), a separate page hosted by the University’s website was proposed to be dedicated to the Green Campus Project, to ensure proper coverage, promotion, and audit of the baseline estimates.

• Mr Muhammad Latif and Dr Kashif Akram suggested sharing of notification of Green Campus Project to all stakeholders to ensure timely conduct of information gathering activities and compliance.

• Dr Areeba Khan proposed envisioning an illustrative benchmark along with baseline estimates to further enhance the value and functionality of the 1^st Sustainability report.

• As discussed by Mr Ayaz Mehmood, the project TORs were proposed to be made part of permanent job descriptions of relevant positions in planning and infrastructure development.

• It was mutually agreed by all team members that the 1^st Sustainability report of IUB will not only be published online on the University’s website but also presented to the competent authority in person and all factions of shareholders in subsequent awareness sessions and symposiums held by the project team.
