Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery

The Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery at Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), is considered as the backbone of veterinary profession. It comprises of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Radiology, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and Ambulatory Service. All sections are well equipped with a variety of sophisticated diagnostic tools. This department offers opportunity of practical training to the veterinary students on its own experimental animals kept at University Livestock Farm. Besides it, clinical and surgical cases of almost all kinds of domestic and companion animals bringing from nearby and distant areas at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital are well demonstrated and dealt to the veterinary students positively. In addition to teaching, several clinical and extension services are being provided to the livestock and poultry farmers. The animals suffering from severe ailments are diagnosed and treated at the doorstep of farmers through Ambulatory Service.

Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery provides following facilities to the local community:

  1. Fecal examination for endoparasites
  2. Blood smear examination for haemoparasites
  3. Skin scrapping for ectoparasites
  4. California mastitis test and surf field mastitis test
  5. Skin delayed-type hypersensitivity test
  6. Diagnosis, treatment and management of clinical and surgical cases presented at Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Southern Gate, BJ Campus, IUB, Canal Road, Bahawalpur
  7. Soft tissue and orthopedic surgery for small and large animals suffering from different surgical affections
  8. Gaseous anesthesia for small animal surgical interventions
  9. Radiology for diagnosis of different musculoskeletal problems
  10. Ambulatory Service for livestock farmers and companion animal’s owners
  11. Farmers education about several clinical ailments related to small and large animals

Program Mission:

The mission of the M.Phil. program in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is to provide advanced, research-oriented education that develops critical thinking, scientific analysis, and evidence-based clinical skills. The program aims to produce competent professionals capable of conducting independent research and addressing veterinary health challenges in accordance with national, international and academic accreditation standards.

 

Program Objectives:

The M.Phil. program in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery aims to:

  1. Advanced Knowledge:
    Provide comprehensive knowledge of veterinary clinical medicine and modern surgical practices.
  2. Clinical Expertise:
    Develop strong skills in disease diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical procedures, anaesthesia, and emergency care.
  3. Research Skills:
    Enable students to conduct independent research and apply scientific evidence in clinical practice.
  4. Critical Thinking and Decision Making:
    Strengthen analytical skills for effective management of clinical cases using evidence-based approaches.
  5. Ethical and Professional Competency:
    Promote professional ethics, animal welfare, and responsible veterinary practice.
  6. Leadership and Teaching:
    Develop communication, teaching, and leadership skills for academic and professional advancement.

 

Program Outcomes

After completion of the M.Phil. in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, graduates will be able to:
