Department of Entomology

The major subject of Entomology was established in 2005 and is the integral constituent of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The department is offering following degree programs:

1. BSc. (Hons.) Agriculture in Entomology (4 years degree program)

2. MSc. (Hons.) Entomology (2 years degree program)

3. PhD in Entomology.

The thesis of PhD is mandatory to be evaluated by the foreign experts.
We focus on a wide range of research areas such as Integrated Pest Management, Insect Molecular Biology, Insect Ecology and Behavior, Systematics and Biodiversity, Apiculture, Toxicology, Biological Control, Urban Insect Pests Control and Stored Grain Pest Management. The main emphasis is given to the farmers’ oriented problems regarding insect pest infestation of different crops. We also provide advisory services to the farmers. The students have an excellent facility for field experimentation in the Agricultural Research Farm at the walking distance from the department. The department draws its strength through cooperation and coordination with other agricultural research/ teaching institutes.
The highly qualified faculty of the department is dedicated for producing trained and motivated students in the field of agriculture with an exclusive prominence on insect fauna. The faculty strives to provide an environment in which students can reach their potential as individuals and as professionals. We strive for not only growth in factual knowledge and research skills but also a broader intellectual growth. The funded research projects by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and other funding agencies of Pakistan are also in the credit of our faculty. The faculty is also committed to develop the technologies and latest methods of insect pest control which are economically feasible, environmentally safe and in easy access to the public. The faculty members have published many scientific research papers, books, conference papers at national and international level. The faculty members are highly qualified and have research experience in specialized area of Entomology from inland and foreign universities of Germany, France, USA, UK and China. The students are welcome to join the research-oriented department for their future career for excellent theoretical as well as practical training in the field of Entomology.
