Department of Pathology

Introduction

The Department of Pathology prepares professionals through teaching and research to meet the future demands of the country. The Department of Pathology provides critical link between basic and clinical sciences. The department is dedicated to disseminating the knowledge of diagnosis and control of various diseases through teaching, hands on research and diagnostic services in all aspects of pathology. As an integral part of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, a highly prestigious institute of Southern Punjab, the department plays a pivotal role in producing highly qualified practitioners whose main responsibility lies in understanding and accurate diagnosis of diseases. With learned foreign qualified faculty members and skilled staff; the department is actively involved in the provision of diagnostic services to the local community of South Punjab. Such activities provide a wide range of case material and enrich the department's clinical and laboratory teaching & research programs.

The mission is to deliver comprehensive education, research, and services to benefit the community of Bahawalpur and beyond. The department is dedicated to nurturing a diverse, inclusive community engaged in innovative teaching, research, and service programs.

Objectives

The Department is striving to fulfill the following objectives:

  1. Produce highly trained manpower in the field of Pathology.
  2. Improve the quality of education as per needs of government and private sector.
  3. Plan strategies for accurate and early diagnosis of diseases.
  4. Conducting post graduate students research on current disease problems.
  5. Work for effective strategies to control the outbreaks.
  6. Conducting innovative research to develop new molecular techniques for emerging infections.

Department of Pathology is recognized as a national leader in Veterinary Pathology education and research. As the largest research institution in South Punjab and the Punjab Province’s largest single employer, IUB plays a pivotal role in driving economic development and innovation.

Educational Approach

The Department of Pathology emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and research-driven education. The curriculum is designed to attract students and scholars of various biological science background, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Department of Pathology not only offers various courses for undergraduate students of DVM but it also encourages mobility and inclusiveness, positioning itself as a model for future higher education in Pathology for the students of DVM, MBBS, BDS, Pharm D, BS Allied Health Sciences (MLT, Microbiology, Forensic Sciences) or any equivalent degree awarded in medical or allied health Sciences field.

Scope

The Pathology Department plays a vital role in providing accurate and timely diagnosis, which is the foundation of effective treatment and disease control. Our work supports veterinarians, researchers, and public health professionals in safeguarding both animal and human health. The areas of work include, but not limited to, diagnostic facilities of both private and government sectors, teaching and research institutes, health care facilities, pharmaceutical industry, wildlife and environmental conservation department.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the postgraduate program in Pathology, graduates will be able to Demonstrate In-depth Knowledge, Perform Accurate Diagnoses, Design and Conduct Research, Interpret and Communicate Findings, Apply Modern Diagnostic Tools, Support Public and Animal Health and Recognize the importance of continuous professional development and remain updated with emerging trends, technologies, and challenges in the field of pathology.

Department of Pathology also provides following facilities to the local community under Central Diagnostic Laboratory Complex (CDLC) platform:

·    Post-mortem facility to the Livestock and Poultry farmers

·    Histopathology

·    HA/HI test for antibodies titration

·    Fluorescent and Phase Contrast Microscopy

·    ELISA and PCR facility for diagnosis of Infectious Diseases
