Institute of Bio-Chemistry, Bio-Technology and Bioinformatics

We at are committed in education and training of human resource. The courses offered at graduate and post graduate levels in three different programs of Biochemistry, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics are designed to develop thoughtful understanding, communication skills, independent thinking and ability to work in a team.

Recent advances in the fields of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics have provided new hopes to the human race for a better future. To benefit from these advances, our nation needs to build human resource in these fields. Realizing this important national obligation, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur launched BS (4 year) integrated Life Sciences Program in 2007. In 2009, the university established an independent department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology offering BS degree programs in the fields of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. The department started MS and PhD programs in the fields of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in 2011 and 2014, respectively. The department was upgraded to the Institute of Biochemistry, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics (IBBB) in 2020 with the addition of BS program in Bioinformatics.

The vision to establish the Institute of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (IBBB) was to cope with the new challenges in life sciences particularly in agriculture, industries, environment and health system. Primary goal of the institute is to improve human living conditions and promote economic development through research in the field of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.  The mission of the institute is to produce high quality professionals who are equipped to provide their services in teaching, research organization and industries and cater the needs of the nation. The institute has highly qualified faculty members and most of them are foreign trained. They are fully committed to their goal of producing the best graduates in these fields. Our research interests are diverse and include drug discovery and development, synthesis, characterization and bioactivities of nanoparticles, isolation and characterization of industrially important microbes, Molecular characterization of human disorders and development of vaccines. We expect our graduates to be able to apply biotechnology principles to solve issues of the society and develop alternative technologies. We aim to introduce innovation and produce ultrapractical graduates and postgraduates having new ideologies and commanding skills using well-equipped and fully furnished laboratories to excel in their majors and research domains.

The programs being offered at the institute are semester based and are successfully being run according to the University Academic Calendar. The institute has well-designed curricula according to HEC guidelines at BS, MS and PhD levels. Because of the relevancy of our research programs, interaction and collaboration with other institutions has been achieved at national and international level. National and international conferences and workshops have been organized by the institute. Besideextensive academic and research activities, the institute also arranges co-curricular activities like sports days, study tours, visits to research organizations and industries to develop and enhance the potential of students regarding leadership qualities, and literary and research oriented skills.

Our graduates compete equally with the graduates from national and international  renowned institutes for higher education scholarships and jobs. A number of our graduates are serving in different educational and research institutes at national and international levels like Kings College London, Harvard University, USA etc.
