INTRODUCTION
The Department of Iqbal Studies established at the faculty of Arts and Languages in January 2021. The main focus of the Department of Iqbal Studies is to teach and research regarding Sir Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal, the great poet, philosopher and thinker of the past century. The Department is offering BS, MPhil and PhD Programs in Iqbal Studies. The Department of Iqbal Studies encourages co-curricular activities as well. Bazm-e-Iqbal is a students' society which organizes many activities such as a fortnight literary program where various renowned poets, authors and Iqbal-Researchers are invited. Annual research journal “PAYAM” has been approved for publication by HEC in Y category.
The main objective of the Department is to make its graduates civilized, cultured, true Pakistani and enlightened individuals. To meet the said objectives the Department has signed MoUs with the great Islamic University Al-Azhar Cairo Egypt, Al-Farabi National University Almaty Kazakhstan and Nur Mubarak Egyptian University Kazakhstan. To spread globally the teachings, Philosophy and thoughts of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the Department is going to establish Iqbal Study Centers in various international universities.
To achieve its main focus on research regarding Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the Department is going to introduce Iqbal Studies postdoctoral Research Program (IPRP). The main focuses of said program will Produce International level Post-Doctoral research regarding the fields related to Dr. Sir Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
OBJECTIVES OF THE POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAM:
In-depth exploration of the life and works of Allama Muhammad Iqbal: The program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Allama Iqbal's philosophical, literary, and political contributions. Scholars will delve into his poetry, prose, and intellectual legacy to gain a nuanced understanding of his ideas, vision and impact.
Advanced research on Iqbal's philosophical and intellectual thought: The program seeks to encourage rigorous scholarly research on various aspects of Iqbal's philosophical and intellectual thought. Scholars will critically analyze his ideas related to spirituality, selfhood, Islamic revivalism, philosophy of Khudi (selfhood) and the concept of the ideal human being.
Comparative studies on Iqbal and other philosophers/thinkers: The program aims to foster comparative studies that examine the connections between Iqbal's ideas and the philosophical traditions of both the East and the West. Scholars will explore the intersections and divergences between Iqbal's thought and prominent philosophers or thinkers, such as Nietzsche, Kant, Rumi or Ibn-e-Arabi.
Promotion of interdisciplinary research: The program encourages interdisciplinary approaches to Iqbal studies, integrating fields such as philosophy, literature, history, politics and Islamic studies. Scholars will explore the multidimensional aspects of Iqbal's thought and its relevance to various academic disciplines.
OUTCOMES OF THE POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAM:
Production of original research: Scholars will produce high-quality, original research papers, dissertations, or publications that contribute to the existing body of knowledge on Iqbal's philosophy, poetry and intellectual legacy. The program aims to generate new insights and interpretations of Iqbal's work.
Scholarly publications: The program encourages scholars to publish their research findings in reputable academic journals, books or edited volumes. This will disseminate knowledge and foster academic dialogue within the field of Iqbal studies.
Academic conferences and seminars: Scholars will have the opportunity to present their research findings at national and international conferences, seminars and symposiums focused on Iqbal studies. This platform will allow for intellectual exchange, feedback and collaboration with fellow researchers.
Contribution to the field: The program aims to produce scholars who can actively contribute to the academic community and participate in broader discussions on Iqbal's thought. They can engage in public lectures, workshops, or outreach programs to promote awareness and understanding of Iqbal's ideas among diverse audiences.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SCHOLAR:
The candidate hold a PhD Degree (in Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences) from an HEC recognized local or international University.
There will be no age limit for Postdoctoral Research Program; however, preference will be given to fresh PhDs.
The candidate must have acquired the requisite academic qualification on or before the closing date.
The candidate have not availed any Postdoctoral Fellowship either sponsored by HEC or any other organization/university (The candidate will submit an affidavit in this regard).
The candidate must submit a clearly written research proposal outlining how he/she intends to satisfy at least 2 of the 4 outcomes/deliverables identified below:
Production of Books/Manuscripts for Publication in the relevant field.
Production of Papers in Peer Reviewed Journal of recognized repute (Minimum one research paper).
Creation of funded research linkages and collaborations.
Creation and introduction of new programs and Courses of International repute.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- Postdoctoral research applications will be processed on the basis of online information/data provided by the applicants and in case of any error/omission/misrepresentation, IUB reserves the right to reject the applicant at any stage.
The supervisor reserves the right to recommend the termination of the consent on unsatisfactory performance of a postdoctoral researcher.
The scholar shall not avail any other scholarship during the said program.
The scholar shall not change the specified course of research/studies or supervisor nor register himself/herself for any other course or program without prior approval of the PRC.
All Postdoctoral research applications will be processed/ reviewed by Research Supervisor and shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by PRC (Post-Doctoral Research Committee) headed by (i) Chairman of the department (ii) one Subject Expert (nominated by the Dean of faculty) (iii) one co-opted member from Board of Studies and (iv) the work supervisor. Supervisor will issue the consent letter on the recommendations of above mentioned committee. The final award letter will be issued to successful candidates by the Directorate of Advanced Studies & Research.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAM:
The duration of Postdoctoral Research program will be six months and extendable till 18 months maximum.
BENCH FEE:
Bench fee for the said would be Rupees One Lac for Pakistani Scholars and 500 USD for International Scholars.
After the completion of first term i.e. six months, to seek extension for further every six months the scholar will pay Rs.25000/- as extension fee.
BENEFITS/ FACILITIES TO THE SCHOLAR:
The scholar will be entitled to avail/use:-
i. | Recreational facilities like university sports complex and play grounds etc. |
ii. | University libraries. |
iii. | Internet access available to the academic staff. |
iv. | Hostel accommodation on payment (subject to availability). |
v. | All other facilities admissible to other students of the Department. |
PROGRESS EVALUATION:
The scholar shall maintain the required standard and quality of the course / research.
The scholar shall regularly submit the monthly progress reports through the supervisor and a final comprehensive report immediately on completion of the study/training/research.
The scholar will get published minimum one research article in HEC approved research journal linked with his field of research, having work supervisor as co-author.
On successfully completion Study/ Training/ Research of the program, the concerned researcher will arrange/ conduct a Seminar.
AWARD OF CERTIFICATE:
At the completion of Post-Doctoral Research, a certificate will be awarded duly signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Controller of Examinations, Director Advance Studies & Research and Chairman of the Department.
