About Us

The Institute of Physics (IoP) is a leading center for physics education and research, with a strong academic legacy dating back to 1975. Originally established as the Department of Physics, it introduced the MPhil Physics program in 2002 and expanded its academic offerings with evening MSc and BS (Hons.) programs. In 2020, the department was upgraded to the Institute of Physics, comprising 11 specialized sub-departments. The Institute is supported by a highly qualified faculty of 38 PhDs and 3 MPhil scholars, many with international academic and research experience. With approximately 500 students and more than 70 PhD scholars, IoP promotes research-oriented education across diverse fields, including Materials Physics, Medical Physics, Semiconductor Physics, Thin Films, Magnetic Nanoparticles, and Computational Materials Science. The Institute remains committed to advancing scientific knowledge through quality education, innovation, and impactful research.

Director Message

The Department of Physics has the distinction of being the oldest department of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, which was established in 1975 along with the University. Since then, the department is focused on quality education. Department of Physics has been upgraded to Institute of Physics in July 2020. Institute of Physics is devoted to provide quality education through interactive teaching and high-quality research activities. Institute of Physics regularly updates curricula and research projects to latest standards, to encourage students and stay connected to the latest advances in Science & Technology. Institute of Physics has highly qualified foreign trained faculty involving thirty-eight PhD and four MPhil members. About seven hundred students are currently enrolled and more than eighty PhD scholars are pursuing their PhD studies in various fields of Physics.

Institute of Physics offers BS, MPhil and PhD degree programs which encompass besides core Physics areas like Quantum Mechanics, Solid State Physics, Electrodynamics and some of the modern Applied fields such as: Medical Physics, Materials Science, Condensed Matter Physics, Semiconductor Physics & Nanotechnology, Space Science, Particle Physics, Renewable energy, Computational physics, Medical imaging & electronics, Bio-medical Physics, and Earth Science, where every field is equally important according to the current needs of our country in education and technology sector. A number of quality research articles are being published every year in well reputed international journals. Institute of Physics has always been the source of innovation in physics, education and research. Our graduates are serving in different research organizations, universities, hospitals, industries and recognized institutes at national and international level.
